Yeah, 1mover scouts are one of the changes in CTH that im not a fan of.
"Superdeath seems to have acquired a rep for aggression somehow. [Image: noidea.gif] In this game that's going to help us because he's going to go to the negotiating table with twitchy eyes and slightly too wide a grin and terrify the neighbors into favorable border agreements, one-sided tech deals and staggered NAPs."

I like the idea of making Hunting have more impact in the early game, but losing the extra move really feels bad after being used to having it for free. Could they give the +100% vs animals for scouts at Hunting? I'm not sure if that's possible in Civ4

Charriu - 100% agree with this if possible. Especially on normal starts where you aren't doing anything for first couple weeks, exploring stuff is fun (important nod  ).

Mh, this definitley weakens Hunting as a starting tech. I will investigate if this is possible and think about it for future versions.

I do agree - I actually like the idea that Hunting means something! And what you've done is far more elegant a fix than RtR shuffling all the food improvement requirements around. I think this is just one of those things where if the game had shipped with your version of Hunting then nobody would bat an eye at it, but right now it's just a little too frustrating to not be able to move anywhere with a scout when we're so used to it.

Well actually the game did ship with something close to me. Remember that in base BtS some civ start with a warrior (1 move) and those Hunting civs start with a scout (2 move).

That we want everybody to start with a scout was a request by the players of this community and since then the mapmakers provided every one with a settler and scout.

Still your argument about players being used to it by now remains true.

Oh it's also worth mentioning that your initial scout does get 2 movement too as soon as you tech Hunting.

All true. Though a large part of moving to scouts for all at the start was to eliminate the scenario of a starting warrior stumbling across an undefended city in the opening turns. We've all gotten used to it since.

Maybe leave it be a while before making a decision?

Like I said I will think about it and will investigate your suggestion about+100% vs animals.
