He's generally emphasizing commerce way too much, working a river plains hill over a grassland forest hill (or unfarmed corn), and earlier working the silver instead of the deer/corn.
A better plan might be to research agriculture, then up to priesthood, then pottery while building the Oracle.
I have to run.

One also has to wonder why TT is not only sending his Scout into the Icy wastelands, but now is planning to send his Warrior in a Northeasterly direction. Surely the fertile land to the South is where he needs to be exploring?

Twinkletoes, I love your details turn reports and many updates, but I'm afraid that your early game management was very, very weedy. This screenshot:
Where the city:
- Works the 0/2/1 plains hill river tile (ugh!)
- Doesn't have the furs camped yet
- No interest in researching Agriculture/farming the corn
- Not taking advantage of Expansive worker bonus from forested plains hill
- Researching Fishing (?)
Just makes my micromanging tick cry inside. This is a great capital city, and its potential is being wasted. Always, always, always get your food up and running first!

While I completely agree with your sentiment, this isn't true, right?
He's got 4 hammers towards the workers and is getting 1 from Expansive (total of 5 hammers in screenie)
Though you could argue that he shoudl have built worker first and used the PFH to get the bonus, rather than waiting for size 2

You're right, my mistake. I just see that tile and think, worker first with Expansive + forested plains hill tile = good stuff. And it doesn't excuse delaying the worker by working the unforested plains hill tile just to get Fishing done a turn sooner, which Twinkletoes doesn't need.
Elsewhere, I saw that scooter has an amazing capital (grassland cows, irrigated wheat, grassland gems, 3 floodplains!) but he is mining the gems before farming the wheat. Oh dear. That's a 5/1/1 tile - farm it, man! Always get your food up and running first!
Sigh. Well, it's a fun game to read.

I was reading through the lurker thread and almost (but not quite) everyone was getting bashed for some early game or another. I think it is good that we are being critical as these guys, once the game is over, will be able to learn a lot. Just in time for CiV .

I really enjoy how all of our northern players seem intent on scouting the tundra before checking out the vastly more fertile ground in the other directions! Especially poor Sandover of Egypt (check out that minimap of terrain explored):
I'd also like to contend once more that the Celts aren't anything particularly special on this map. Yes, Highlands has more hills than normal, but there aren't *THAT* many hill tiles. I certainly wouldn't look at the map above and think, "Wow I have to get Guerilla promotions here!" Still maintain that people were overthinking that one. It's basically just a normal map script.

This post actually made me open the save again in world builder. I was wondering if I had screwed the Egyptians, but they have plenty of sites to the south (and even a few to the north).

Argh, TT is joining scooter's and is intent on mining the Silver before farming the Corn.
