Fire&Ice moves forward onto the ramp, immediately attracting reaction fire from the NE. One shot glances off his armour, making him flinch but otherwise does no harm.
He spots the muton which stands out nicely in the cornfield.



He jumps off the ramp, spins round and shoots it twice, killing it. The last shot it gets off as it falls smacks into the ramp in front of Fire&Ice's visor.

This is how we do it.

Amelia jumps off to the right of the ramp and spots a muton to the SE, facing away. Her two shots miss though. Ichabod follows Amelia and spots another muton to the south east.

Pocketbeetle fires at the eastern most muton and kills it
Ichabod, Meiz and Brian Shanahan fire at the other muton, with Brian hitting its back but its armoured skin deflects the plasma.

The muton turns and shoots Brian in the head, killing him. It then calmly turns and walks away.

Amelia and Pocketbeetle both advance firing at the muton but fail to hit it.
Meiz pops up from his crouch and fires more wild shots at it.
After watching the previous eleven shots being fired at the muton without no apparent effect, Sergeant Sullla sighs and takes his turn. His heavy plasma bolt smashes straight into its chest- but it still stands there.
Captain Dazed and Sergeant ManbehindMask fly out of the Skyranger and also try their hand, missing further shots.

(Hidden) the muton looks bored and walks further away into the building south of the Skyranger.

Ichabod moves to re-aquire the target but spots another muton to the east. His shots fail to connect.

When you want shit done you need to do it yourself.

Zakalwe, Fire&Ice, Ug and Kronoz move up the UFO preparing for entry.

Shock troopers to the front. Zakalwe heres your stun baton. First&Ice you know how to kill. Scraps bottom of the barrel well I can't send sarlen in first he has the suit.

For some reason I'd convinced myself they did - probably getting mixed up with another game. Can always transfer the Elerium back at minimal cost.

You're going to need it for firestorms. Though with this many bases, I don't think it matters. We cover most of the Northern Hemisphere.

It also seems the RnG gods frown upon on our cloning process...

Ah, not to worry he was just a clone, there are more where he came from in the maturation vats.

Everyone is keen to avenge Brian and finally nail his killer. Meiz takes direct action by blowing away the building wall and spots it waiting in ambush by the doorway.

Hopefully it is not me without my being aware of it. Did that once already. But I believe I usually follow Uberfish in the rotation.

Orders put in for more "special equipment". Engineers were instructed to build more power suits/personal armour and also a plasma hovertank (although it wasn't going to be used for what I had in mind.)

Ok, well so I decided to let the scout go. A Small snakeman scout showed up in East Asia on a research mission and I just shot it down for the points. We detected a supply ship heading to resupply the North Pole alien base. An interceptor and the Skyranger were promptly dispatched.

Unfortunately, the supply ship was too fast and had completed its mission and left before the Skyranger could get there. It flew away much too fast for the interceptor to catch.

Time for plan B.

Load the special equipment onto the skyranger and have it on patrol at the North Pole as long as physically possible to ambush supply ships when they landed!

So 14 volunteers who didn't get air-sick much were picked for the mission, and the skyranger flew up to the North Pole... and waited... and flew back home to refuel... and back up to the North Pole... and waited... and so on.

In the meantime our interceptors were having fun shooting down various alien scouts for points. A Snakeman Terror Ship was also shot down preventing a Chryssalid city raid, but we didn't recover it. And also, before we actually had hangar space to build a Firestorm, we'd actually researched all the way up to Avenger and I began construction of that.

May ended before I actually noticed; the UN was pleased with the shot-down UFOs and our funding was increased, but the Avenger construction combined with salaries actually put us into the red financially at about -$400000. Oops!

Eventually, shortly after the start of June, our Skyranger detected a supply ship landing near the alien base. It had slipped past the Hyperwave network but not the plane's radar.

Bases at the North pole are tough because that is where alien ships enter/exit the earth from space and after completing a mission. Therefore the supply ships basically just have to show up do their thing and leave. Hard to detect and gone quickly!

Fire&Ice had been constantly complaining throughout the long wait for the supply ship. "Way too much ice and not enough fire on this mission if you ask me."

Meiz grunted stoically. "Good thing we didn't bring the incendiaries then."

"Aww, you mean there are no rocket launchers in the special equipment crate this time?" grumbled Pling.

"No idea, only Colonel Dazedroyalty knows and he's got the key. I'm really excited to be on a mission though!" said Jkaen.

Eyes turned towards the colonel. Dazed was in fact curled up trying to catch some sleep in a corner. Pocketbeetle noticed a suspicious looking piece of paper tucked into Dazed's back pocket and surreptitiously lifted it. Before unfolding the paper to read it, he unscrewed the lid from a jar and dumped the contents into Dazed's now empty pocket.

"What's that?" inquired Sullla. Pocketbeetle only chuckled.

Amelia grabbed the piece of paper.

"Hey, it's the receipt for the special equipment!" said Zakalwe excitedly. "Maybe there are improved stun rods!"



"What the hell is this shit?" cursed v8mark, one of the new recruits. "Rifles? Pistols? I thought XCOM had all sorts of fancy lasers and alien tech!"

The skyranger went into an abrupt dive throwing half the squad across the plane's interior. Dazedroyalty slid all the way from the exit ramp, bashing his head against the cockpit partition. Dazed from the impact, he staggered to his feet.

"Shut up and suit up. You've been moaning about the lack of action for the past two weeks. Now you're getting it."

As the squad grabbed their gear the horrible screech of metal against ice was heard as the pilot once again did his best impression of a crash landing.
