Discovered a nice little river valley to the west of our capital. Also, the barbarian animals are about:
I plan to continue moving south in a semi-circle around the capital.
This post was more about the capital, as our worker finishes end of turn and so I needed to settle on a plan. The obvious one would be to work the corn and build a warrior next, while the worker improves the wheat (t12-15). On t16 we'll be at 12/22 food and 8/15 into the warrior. Switch to the wheat and grow to 2 end of t17, but the warrior is still only at 14/15. At size 2 work the forested plains hill and complete the warrior with 5h overflow, then on t19 start a settler. Worker is improving the corn at this point but doesn't finish until t22. Settler finishes end of t28.
The tech is a little more important. I picked Meditation in the end because i wanted to get to the worker techs ASAP. For this start we really want Animal Husbandry, but we have to research it right after Meditation in order for it to count. If we go AH straight after Meditation we'll get it end of t31 - and with our first settler done end of t28 that would be right about the time we'd be settling city #2. If I was settling the southern pig first or stretching north to get the pig+wheat then I would likely go this route.
An alternative would be to have city #2 share the wheat out of the capital - either settling on the coast N-N-NW of the capital, or (more likely) settling inland at W-NW-NW of the capital (2S of the other wheat). If we did not need AH for the second city then that would open up Fishing right after Meditation, and possibly letting us go Fishing > Mining > BW - but only if we can leave the Animal Husbandry spots for around t50. That may be about the right timing for a 3rd city, depending on how other things go.
In reality the decision between tech and city #2 is pretty intertwined, so I don't think I can make a firm choice until I fix where the second city goes. So it is important to get that next ring around our capital scouted to let us make an informed decision.
