Worker into something else. Not sure. Figure he's either going animal husbandry or mysticism next.
Worker into worker, since he hasn't grown his cap. Not sure if he could've gotten AH in just 5 turns, but I think so considering possible overflow. Hard to tell what that tech actually was.

Turn 18
Darrell found fish.
Far from an ideal location, but that's one more resource I didn't have.
Sandoria is going to be vulnerable again for a while, but such is life.
Nothing from Gaspar yet. Maybe any time now?

We did.
And yeah, Zak was a wolf.

Cool. So that leaves me with four players successfully identified as villagers, one wolf rightly accused, and only two flauded accusations. I can live with that score despite having tried to lynch the mason mayor.
In other news, never got a reply from Gaspar. Such a slowpoke!

Turn 19
Darrell found clams and an oasis, so this spot is starting to look pretty decent.
It looks like there's a lot of land eastward so I expect to find another neighbour this way before too long.
Note that Serdoa's cap grew, placing him alongside scooter at 3 pop vs 1 pop for all other players.

These are starting to become a little more interesting.
Quote:Pharaoh Sandover,
Sorry I took so long getting back to you, games still in the slow stages and I haven't quite gotten to pace with it myself yet. I think your insights about the map may prove to be correct - though if so, one of the land bridges on my east must connect to the rest or its a really weird shaped pangaea. Once I'm done uncovering the west coast, I'll move that direction to test that hypothesis.
We also have copper close to home, so I suspect your suspicion re: strategic resources is indeed correct.
As far as wonders, this is a bit up in the air, but Stonehenge and/or Oracle are fairly normal plays for my leader. If I do finally go in that direction, I'll probably stay away from wonders for a while after that, though the map will have a lot to say about it. Right now I'm just grabbing worker techs and moving towards granaries to leverage my traits. Once that's taken care of, I'll have a think about religion. I know Stonehenge is pretty strong for Egypt as well, so I'd imagine you've at least considered it.
I am very interested in what your short term tech and wonder plans are as well. No reason for either of us to waste beakers or hammers in silly races. I think as the non-financial Civs of the game, it benefits us to work together, especially if there's as much water all around as there seems to be at my home base. When the Civ picks were finished I was actually sort of hoping you'd be on the other side of the world, as I felt the leader choices made us natural allies. Hopefully we can work past any border tensions we might eventually have and manage a beneficial relationship still - the financial civs have the much easier game, no reason for us to make it easier on them. I'd quite like it if the non-financial Civs were the last two standing, actually.
Prophet Gaspar
Quote:Prophet Gaspar,
Before I forget I'd like to ask you if the river running south from Sandoria connects to your territory in any way? Early trade would certainly be an advantage for both of us.
Also, I found my first fish tile northeast of Sandoria. The land to my immediate east is pretty much as barren as I expected it to be (at least as far as I can tell) but the presence of seafood makes for a viable first ring city, so I'm satisfied with my recent findings. It looks like there's a lot more land that way so nothing has disproved my theory thus far.
I'd like Stonehenge for obvious reasons. Nevertheless, since there's a large risk associated with going for it (any player in the game would find it an attractive wonder) and because I don't want to stunt early growth I don't see myself building it. I think my wonder strategy is going to evolve around trying to get the Pyramids some way or another, as it's arguably the best wonder for me, but I'm really not sure yet at which point in the game I'd consider that kind of investment worthwhile.
Right now I'm researching pottery to open up the route to writing for an early scientist. Not sure what I'll do after that, or even on the way there as I haven't decided when I want to pick up animal husbandry yet.
I agree about the natural allies part. Frankly, picking such an easy-to-play cookie cutter mainstream trait like financial is like begging me to come and kill you, so I have some work cut out for me this game. There's a need for greater map knowledge before it's worthwhile discussing border tension and future expansion plans, but if we are indeed sharing the western end of some sort of pangea I don't see what's stopping us from pushing eastward until we reach the other side of the continent. Food for thought, certainly.
