I don't see the Lighthouse requiring a ban as long as the "close borders with X" diplo option is available. Unless we end up with an island heavy map someone getting the Lighthouse isn't an undue advantage on its own, it can be countered.

My personal game speed preference is Normal, but I'm not too fussed either way.

I think the map maker should decide whether or not TGL is banned.

I also prefer everybody on the same land mass, with enough water to matter. I wouldn't have a problem with starting resource types differing a little bit. For example, having a silver instead of a gold could be balanced out with getting wet corn rather than dry corn.

I think since the capital is the most important city, I'd rather not risk an accidental balance flaw there since it would have a much bigger impact than any other minor difference.

I'd like to sign up for my first PBEM, but would like a teammate to work with.

I'm a total newb at Civ MP. Played a couple of pickup games with masters - learned how to get stomped on like I wasn't even there.

waterbat, are you requesting a team mate or a dedicated lurker? From experience, it's a lot easier and less time consuming to work together when one player has full decision power. What is your availability like?

I think we will want to close the signups as 5 teams, in order to maintain a good pace. On that note, I think we need to discuss rules for replacing players. A player had to be replaced in both of my games so far, and it was a frustrating experience. I suggest the following:
1) All players post their password in their report thread
2) Anytime you miss a turn window and cause a delay, please report it in the tech thread
3) In the event of multiple delays over a period of time or an unexplained delay of more than 48 hours, the player can be replaced with another player if all other players agree
4) For the first 72 hours after taking over, a replacement is considered a substitute and the original player may take over again if all players agree
5) The second time a civ is taken over, it is permanent

You are, of course, welcome to get a substitute yourself for whatever reason as needed. Would this work?

No problems with the above here. I'll know well in advance of any potential delays on my side.

Is there still the possibility to join? I have yet to play a Civilization IV PBEM and would like to finally get into it, but I am quite rusty.

We could open up a 6th slot, although that would be putting quite a bit of pressure on the daily pace. What is your availability like ArchDuke? And would you be interested in teaming up with or lurking someone? I'd personally be okay with a 6 player game, if everybody is committed to keeping a good pace.

6 people would mean quick speed.

But I'm fine with that.

I am fine with playing alone or teaming up really.
