Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

OSG1 - A Prod-Ductive Venture

Ok, folks,

Sirian has indicated that he's still temporarily offline as far as MOO goes due to other (RL/computer) issues. I will start the next round of SGs off. It will either be one or two games, depending on how much interest shows. Please speak up if you'd like to participate! I need votes on the following:
  • Which of the 4 proposed options you're most interested in (rank by preference would be ideal). If there is another you're burning to try, let us know for next time!
  • If we had 2+ teams, would you prefer them to play the same map, different map, or doesn't matter
  • If the opportunity arises, would you want to play in more than one SG?

Here's my vote: A hard game as Sakkra and an impossible game as Klackon, more if we get enough people. I'll be happy to help pad out rosters, though 2-3 games at once is probably my limit.

I would be interested in participating (I've never have done a succession game but I've read lots of reports), and I would also vote for hard Sakkras or impossible Klackons as well.

My preferences would be the impossible Klackon game, and probably Silicoids second, as that takes a different mindset, but they are fun to play. I would prefer to keep myself to 1 MOO SG at a time, as I'm still hoping to play in the RBCiv Conquests SGs also.

I would like to participate in a succession game. It doesn't have to be OSG2.

If we have enough for two teams, I'd rather have them on the same map so we can compare.

My preference is not Humans. They're easy to win with but playing their game doesn't suit me. Silicoids on Hard don't entice me either; they're basically a lock on Medium/Impossible, but tedious with even that many planets. I'd be happy to play Psilons or Klackons on Impossible, or Sakkras or Meklars or Darloks on Hard.

Hi,

I'd be interested in another SG. I am pretty easy in terms of which option we choose, but would prefer to play at least a Hard level game. If we have enough interest for two teams, I'd like to play the same map so we can compare the games. As for participating in more than one SG, I don't think I'd be able to -- one at a time seems to be about my limit right now (especially as I'm still intersted in playing the MOO epics...)

Thanks for organizing Zed!

Hi,

I'll have to pass this time. I'm in two civ SGs already, with especially the passive aggressive always war game taking a lot of time to play, and IMHO MoO doesn't lend itself so well to the SG format as civ does. In civ3, the player has somethig to do nearly every turn, while in MoO the action is not so evenly spread over the turns. Sometimes, you only have to basically click "next turn" with only fiddling around with some sliders or making the odd research choice during your turns, while the next player suddenly has to make important choices like new ship designs which have a big impact on the turns of the next players and which cannot be vetoed so easily as most decisions in civ3 can be. Sure, declaring war or choosing a research path can have similar effects in civ3, but somehow I feel the individual players have more control over the flow of the game there than in MoO.

That's a bit unfair to say after playing only one SG though, so I'll give it a second chance once the passive aggressive AW SG is over. And I love playing the Imperia. smile

So far I have positive responses from:
Justus_II - Impossible
Erick the Red - Impossible
Patroclus - Hard or Impossible
Selentine - Hard or Impossible
JMB - Hard or Impossible

Sounds like most people would prefer Impossible Klackons, so that's what we will go with. I will try to start the game "soon." smile
