[PB70] The Cartographic Correction Committee convenes

Can't argue with that!

Ok Ginger, in case you weren’t following, there was some tech thread drama. I don’t really know what it entailed, but notably I do know WHO it entailed, and it means a lot for our plans. El Grillo subbing for Charriu and Bing got into some sort of issue/dispute, and maybe Mjmd is involved? But we can see the following happened in this order.

1) El Grillo logged in to play last in T73 for Charriu. He then began to play T74, and then did not end. He said in the discord tech thread:

El Grillo Wrote:I have a question for Charriu so I'll leave T64 unplayed.

2) Then a couple hours later Bing logs in, and suddenly posts start happening in the tech thread and discord about how we may need a reload. Bing remains logged in for 2 hours, approximately doubling his total time spent in game so far. Then it seemingly gets resolved without any change.

I have no idea what happened here, but I wonder if there was a settling race and turn order was confused due to the substitute? I’ll probably ask someone soon, but what happened isn’t super important as much as it’s good news that Bing/Charriu are having issues. Makes our southern push plan look a lot more viable and suggests that Bing may be somewhat more focused on his south side. I hope there's some bad blood coming out of this - we'll see.

Well, I found out what that dispute was about.

Bing not only does have a Skirmisher, he used it to steal a Charriu worker? Even stranger - they have since made peace and signed Open Borders? I have no idea what’s going on here. Well, I know one thing - Bing is being a thorn in Charriu’s side. I moved the scout NW-NE on top of the Warrior and saw Bing’s culture just to the west. That’s that hyper aggressive Fish/Cow city Charriu told us about. Seems like really good developments for us.

This situation is deeply bizarre to me. I've pieced together mostly what's happened thanks to my scout, reviewing PBSpy, and some chatting with Bing to get his POV. As I understand it, the following happened in order.

Turn 63:
* Bing plays, I assume moved Skirmisher in a threatening position of some sort. Unclear whether this was visible to Charriu's civ at this point, but I'd assume so. I can't see how it wouldn't be visible given my most recent screenshot.
* Charriu leaves instructions but apparently doesn't actually track down someone to sub for him - just assumes somebody will appear.
* El Grillo - one of the few people actually lurking this game - graciously volunteers. He plays last on T63.

-- Turn Roll --

Turn 64:
* El Grillo does not play a double turn due to some sort of issue. It's unclear to me if this was the Skirmisher or something else. Also I guess unclear whether he started the turn or not, but for purposes of turn order doesn't really matter.
* Bing logs in (very clearly NOT a double move) and sees a worker and happily steals it
* We have a pause and the first round of discussions happen.

Now, to this point, as I understand it, Bing has violated 0 rules. The only unfortunate thing is he punished a mistake that a sub made that Charriu likely would not have made. Note: this is kind of Charriu's fault anyway for not actually securing a sub despite knowing for weeks he would need one. From my talks with Bing, he seems to think someone has told him he's sort of violated a rule? I don't understand why he thinks that. But he told me he 1) agreed to return the worker due to feeling bad about the sub situation, and 2) intended to continue at war.

For some reason he agrees to peace and Open Borders instead of simply staying at war and marching the worker into Charriu's land for Charriu to recapture which would have been 10x simpler and fairer???

And now, surprise, agreeing to this was a bad idea and we're into round 2 because borders popped screwing his re-declaration of war and/or gift?

If I were him I'd either demand a reload back to start of T64 or just keep the worker for his troubles. The gap in knowledge I have here is exactly why he even agreed to all this to begin with and what his original intent was. Did the lurkers tell him to do that, because if so, that's a pretty terrible choice? But either way it feels like a relatively simple issue has gotten vastly overcomplicated for no reason. I'm thisclose to harassing a vet that isn't paying attention to this game to get this straightened out because I don't know why we're 48 hours into this issue other than the fact that no experienced and assertive lurkers are watching.

Apologies. I think everyone is a bit wary of intervening in these situations, especially as its been a while since we had one in a game with diplo on.

Diplo on definitely does not help, yeah. One of the many reasons we stopped playing full diplo games for so long. smile

I'd call myself experience and assertive at this point, but spend the majority of yesterday driving. It's messy enough that I want other eyes on it though, as there's no easy quick fix.

Can't say too much due to spoilers, but I believe the "no reason" should read "diplo".

I was describing myself there, Tarkeel. I watched this unfold and definitely could have stepped in earlier, likely saving everyone time.

That wasn't really intended to be a criticism - more a reflection of reality that there aren't a ton of eyeballs on this game right now. The issue popping up over a holiday weekend doesn't help. Either way, I appreciate you stepping in with a clear decision, Q.

LMAO did Bing forget to re-declare on the reload or something? After all that we're right back to where we were except he doesn't have the worker. This game is incredible.

Looking forward to playing T64 for the 3rd time tomorrow.
