Ooooo, yes. rolf

But not until I actually control the area; otherwise it's just tempting fate.

I'm glad I diverted back to uncover this area, knowing about the Rice will help eventual dotmapping:

Looks like Coast again N-NE of the Scout, so I guess he'll be looping back West again.

Worker is out and Farming and next turn we'll see where the Horses can be found.

Oh, and interesting news from abroad is that someone is already size 2. No religions fallen yet though.

So about this river valley:

Scout will go E-NE and then through that open spot 3N of the Horses to defog the (actual) coast. (frigging lakes nono )

I auto-dialed up Mining, but then um'd and ah'd and switched to Myst; I think I need the flexibility to put something second-ring and bang out a quick Monument, rather than committing to BW this early - there's still minimal value to Mining on its own.

Also no Religion has gone yet, and with the Stone encouraging Masonry, I might grab for Monotheism.

Sorry for the lack of reporting over the weekend; not much interesting to say when you're just uncovering a couple of tiles per turn and waiting for a Worker to build a Farm. Anyway, now I have a full picture of the North, so here's the picture I will be staring at for the next few days as I try to dotmap:

No Fish.  thumbsdown

But maybe that makes the Horse city easier? The natural first thought is how to get a decent port city with the Corn/Horses ... but maybe that's not possible or a good idea. With no offshore resources, the city would just be picking up bald coastal tiles and would have to convert the river tiles to generate production for meaningful port.

Mad idea #1 - plant on the Southern Dyes (1SW of Horse). Worker improves the Horse while I push out a cheap Monument to grab the Corn. This does leave space for a later coastal filler 1SE of the Corn.

Looking further West, Mad idea #2 - plant on the Stone. I do need to do some checks on output of desert Stone verses planting the city on it, but I think that might be the right solution to settle Westward.

South will have to wait for Scout2 to pop and explore.

Misc. things:

* you might see "1t Road" on the Corn, that was a misclick this turn; the Worker should have moved towards the Cows. Since I don't have a micro sheet, I can't see how this affects my expansion and so I just shrugged.  crazyeye
* I'll probably Farm the Banana to give Cod a 3rd 4fh tile to work at size 3.
* Whomever made the decision to move off the starting plains hill and work it, I think is a step ahead of the rest of us - it would have been a good move for me given my continued avoidance of Mining-BW.
* No religions have fallen yet which is interesting ... I will not chase the first 2, but Monotheism is a high possibility with the Stone available.

Nah, I don't think people need to report every turn. In the early game you can easily go 5 turns without reporting if all you're doing is playing out what you described you were going to do and nothing exciting shows up in the map exploration.

2 pictures today!

Firstly, the North continues to be explored:

This feels like it is getting into/past border territory, so I'm not going to try to get back to the coast and turn inland a bit. I'm in two minds about whether to keep circling around to uncover the next ring of land, or to push deep until I meet someone and then swing back. We'll see.

Then a bit of a home update:

Jake steps out to start exploring. I'd actually semi-decided to have him defog the Eastern coast past the Cursed Rice before heading South, but then I forgot that until after I'd played the turn. crazyeye

You may spot that I'm working the hill right now; I'll grow to size 3 in 2 turn and start working the completed Pasture. I did some quick in-game micro and by working the hill now, I can complete a Warrior the following turn and then start a Settler. It costs me a couple of commerce from the Cow, but doesn't affect the current research.

The Worker will move to farm the Banana next and then start building a road connection North. (unless Jake finds anything juicy to the South in the next few turns). The Warrior will defog the coast and then head North as well.

A note to self: I don't need the Warrior to defog from the Cursed Rice, I need him to defog from alternative spots to see if I obviate any marine resources by settling on the Rice.

(I will probably forget this before the Warrior sets out to explore, but at least I'm trying...)

You can use the in-game signs to remind you of stuff like that. Shortcut is ALT+S

Yeah, and I do, but it only works if I remember stuff while in the game!
