I missed a trick there. In fairness, I felt I was snarky enough, not sure the post could actually have held any additional snark without exploding.

Ah, I still remember the good ol' Gaspar tier lists...............................
Oh, wait! I don't!!

Any tier list I wrote would be laughably bad - I have no idea what's happened in like the last 10 pitbosses.

Yeah that's the worst part of that picture. Association with that beer.
Look, one of the people I went with insisted I wear something festive. I sure as hell didn't drink any of that cold urine.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Stuff About Teams We're Playing Against
Second Victims - BoldlyGoingNowhere w/Spacetyrantxenu
(Not generally a fan of potty humor, but there you go.)
Playing as:
Asoka of the Aztecs (Spiritual, Organized, Jaguar, Sacrificial Altar)
Asoka is pretty boring to GIS, you guys.
Known Knowns:
Boldly and Xenu have played together before. Boldly provides the obsessive micro and grand planning, Xenu provides the impetus. Boldly is one of the best players you don't think of as a great player and I think teaming with his brother makes it more likely that he'll shore up his main weakness of a being a bit overly cautious. I really like Boldly and Xenu really dislikes me, so should be interesting on that front.
Their list is probably most similar to ours, even if we didn't rate this particular choice that highly. Aztecs are a null civ, basically. And Asoka is one of those guys who's pretty boring even if he can be reasonably effective. This is sort of a heavy micro pick, but I'm not sure there's a compelling reason to expect they'll be more successful going this route than the other guys with builder combos. Most interesting is that they picked 3 of the top 4 choices as IMP but liked Spi/Org enough to go with this 2nd. They might also be most likely to be unhappy they lost a coin flip.
Anyway, given that Boldly is about as buildery as you'll find and their list was super buildery, I'd expect them to hunker down and try and get the industrial complex going before getting aggressive at a later point. If left alone by the aggressive guys, they could very easily win this game. I do think they are one of the most teams with the kick me sign - "Snuff these guys in the cradle" though, so that's going to be a big ask.
Known Unknowns:
How engaged is Boldly? Is he willing to endanger his marriage yet again for a pitboss? If not, will Xenu engage or mail in the turns he plays? Can you outbuilder enough people on a late start to make up for the lack of military advantages? Can we outbuilder them?

Stuff About Teams We're Playing Against
Third Victims - ReallyEvilMuffin
(The only guy playing true solo.)
Playing as:
Julius Caesar of Japan (Imperialistic, Organized, Samurai, Shale Plant)
Japanese Caesar Salad is apparently a thing.
Known Knowns:
REM is one of the passel of players here I don't know a lot about. From what I can tell, he's known here for his military play - I believe he scored a knockout on Commodore in PB27 but I was dedlurking Serdoa there and he didn't really update his thread once reddog was revealed to be a mackoti sockpuppet, for obvious reasons - so I could be entirely wrong about that. Harry tells us he's a ladder player which suggests he might be more experienced than average at a later era start. Nothing suggests incompetence here, at a minimum.
The pick is the one we leaned towards for the majority of the setup process as we felt Org and Imp were probably the two clear best traits for this start. After we simmed a very little bit we noted that IMP didn't really help as much as we originally hoped with the first 3 settlers which seemed where it needed to really help to outstrip ORG. But there's no doubt that JC is going to be fastest to do the two most important build things here - Settlers and Factories. Shale Plants are pretty decent as far as UBs go here as well, even if Samurai are extinct. I'm not convinced this isn't the best pick, honestly, since we woefully underprepared for this game.
Anyway, it seems that REM picked a buildery leader to perhaps augment his tactical/military strengths. His list had a fair bit in common with us, so it seems he valued the leaders fairly similarly. I would expect him to hunker down and get his cities and factories up and then move to take advantage of a weaker neighbor. He's got potential to be a real threat.
Known Unknowns:
Who is this guy? Can he show the strength of economic play needed to be a winner here? With 7 players scoring a TKO on a lone neighbor isn't going to be enough, particularly if someone else does it too, you're going to need to keep the train a-rolling. Harry's synopsis helped but I'm still more than open to additional Spark Notes on REM.
