[pb46 spoilers] Hitru lurks again

Turn 66

Rusten temporarily joined us in the 6-city club until we settled our 7th this turn and renamed the club. He's expanding so hard that he can't possibly be aiming for 'mids as well, can he? It'd be pretty scary if he lands them, so lets hope that Dark Savant (third city on t50) or TBW (third city on t52) is building them. Superdeath just got the Great Lighthouse, but with only three cities (third city on t56!) he's well out of the running as a threat. It'd be nice if we could capture it again... mischief

Edit: Just noticed I put the wrong image here. This is our 6th city and we're not sure if the next bit of land over (with the horse and sheep) is actually part of our continent - it looks like it curves back around toward Elkad in the fog.

Demos and power. Our overseas trade routes net us +12 commerce and -5 in costs. Not enough to go #1 GNP (although we are saving cash for currency now - never mind that we're 2 beakers short of Alphabet, we don't really need it anyway...)

If you are waiting for the Digging in the code section, I'm sorry. Right now I'm on vacation till sunday and don't want to write a lengthy report on the phone.
But that just means more reports for you in the next week. smile

Turn 69

Not a lot is happening. We're a bit better equipped to cope with barbarians now though. crazyeye Have we got an unusually large amount of land or is everyone this far away from their neighbours?

Demos and power. We've offered Elkad open borders and might offer them to pindi, although with our overseas city they would benefit him and not us. But being able to put a scout in his border cities would make me feel more secure. scared

Turn 72

Our eighth city, HallOfFameInfo, is settled! This one will grow fast and can share tiles nicely with E, but doesn't have a lot of hammers. This is true of most of our cities and we may have to stick with slavery for a lot longer than I normally like to. The incoming barb shouldn't be a problem and the sentry chariot will go explore/fogbust the north just as soon as it heals.

I'm a little paranoid about Pindicator dropping two axes or an axe/spear pair west of H and managing to raze it, so we'll keep a chariot in range and some hammers in an archer to whip. We could offer open borders and station a scout in his border city, but he'd make more money from it than us, so it's not a great option. Do we want to keep the sentry chariot a secret from Pindi?

Even if OB hurts you somewhat relative to pin it helps you relative to everyone else, no?

Had you debated 1 NW for H? I can see that without the forest and shared tiles the start is quite slower, still with the two additional hills and claiming the fish I think I would've settled that (and considered Moai, although again, no trees). Are you generally following a strategy of settling tight? Interested in your reasoning.

We are considering building Moai in our current capitol A, which has access to all those nice lake tiles. 1 NW is slower just as you said, which is why we didn't consider it. We also expect that at least one city will be settled north of H, which will need the fish

As Charriu says we considered 1nw until we found more seafood up there. We're IMP so more cities makes sense for us and the more fishing villages working FIN coast the better. And sharing tiles let's us spend lots more time on micro plans. Moai over here is tempting, but it's a very slow build and a juicy target for a neighbour so it'll go in the capital once we have stone.

As for OBs with Pindicator - he'd get about 5cpt and we'd get 1. Normally I'd be all in favour, but for some reason we're feeling paranoid this game. Possibly because the world feels so big and empty so far... We should just bite the bullet and offer it.

Thanks, that's instructive

Wow I didn't realize it would be 5:1...understand the reluctance.
