I dont' think we have to keep the same diplo settings between the greens and the vets game. That can be split up if different games prefer different diplo settings.
@Sareln - likely it does mean those civs should be banned. Great Lighthouse could potentially be banned, but maybe it gets kept along with FIN around to balance things out. But I trust Commodore will run the map by lurkers and get a balanced ban list

Thoughts on map: Since we're trying to make land and sea equally important, how about a map with a smallish central landmass where all the players start and then peninsulas and islands radiating outwards? That way all but the earliest expansion has to go outward, by sea, but aggressive land-based strategies are also viable.
Thoughts on bans: I would ban the four "naval" civilizations: the Vikings, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the Carthaginians. I would also encourage either everyone to pick a Financial leader, or no one to. I would ban the two "naval" wonders: the Great Lighthouse and the Colossus.
Thoughts on diplomacy: I would prefer at least some kind of textual communication to be possible. Otherwise negotiations will take far too long.

I highly doubt Portugal and Carthage need to be banned...
The idea behind AI diplo is to limit negotiations.

What is AI Diplo?
Also - I really like the look of the mirrorland script with the top two water options (bottom of the drop down and 2nd bottom). Take a look at the sorts of maps that generates. Yes - it is mirrored - I am not proposing that - I am proposing a map that looks like those look.
I don't want too much water or you get navel being way too important - equally, you need some water to keep people honest / give people options for launching a deep thrusting navel based assault.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I know I was happy full diplo was on for my first game, felt like I learned more that way. Including appreciation of not having full diplo on It was too much effort, but I'm glad I tried it. If we push all our newbies into playing with full diplo off, we might create an environment that's a little too uniform IMO.

It mean that you can only use the diplo options avaiable in the tech trading screen to communicate with other players (without writing any text in the chat box, renaming units or any other type of communication). So you can suggest resource trades, demand a city, offer open borders, offer gold, propose a peace treaty. But you can say anything about your intentions or make deals like NAPs (which cannot be proposed in the game - well, if you are a wizard at getting your point across using the diplo window, you can sign a NAP, but that's pretty hard to do).

I think diplo should be decided separately between the vet & green games. No reason why they have to be the same diplo setting on both games.
@ruff_hi - agree with your sentiments of land / water balance. I do like what I've seen out of mirrorland so far, but i trust commodore can deliver something just as good.

Agree fully that there's no need for the same diplo system to be used in both games, I was just commenting on the greens game. Which I have absolutely no business sticking my nose in, as opposed to the vets game which I also don't really have any business sticking my nose in
