The installation and hookup was very painless. Having reead throught the post on what might have to be done was helpful, and so was having messed around with trying to max outr memory on old dos machines. I chose not to go for the sound option, which I might later, but then again, I'm sure I can find some appropriate music somewhere.
As regards to the game quality... I just played a couple of quick turns and it was a combination of the memories and the game flow. I remember playing this game as a teenager, and it was brilliant  and then just the recognition of the game elements all clicking into place. How to put it... it was smooth, like mmm... well aged whiskey for those of you now old enough to enjoy the metaphor. I will definately enjoy taking this game to a level I was never able to take it to when I was in my teens.
The save file is up on the site, and Imperium One is now open! :D
Great idea! MoO is one of my all-time favorites, along with Master of Magic (another game worthy of a continuing tournament play format, IMO). I've downloaded the file and plan to submit an entry.
Like most good plans it did not survive meeting the enemy.
Success can be reported in downloading the zip/unzip program. I picked the demonstration version good for 21 days, with nags to buy it for $29 evertime I turn arround. I downloaded with limited success patch 1.3, It did not wind up in the MPS/Orion file where I need it. Its in a unziped programs file the ZIP Wizard set up. I tried to drag it from there to MPS/Orion and do not think I suceeded. When I played MOO there was no verson number in the correct screen where it would appear normally. I did get to read the readme file for 1.3. Looks like some good changes. So I downloaded the whole game, I believe it is patched, but it went to the unzipped program file. When I click on the exe icon, and try to get it into Win 95 compatability and 2048 memory for both extended and expanded, which is how I got the discette based program in C:/MPS/Orion to run it didn't help. I get very briefly a black screen like it might be trying to tell me it doesn't have enough memory, but no message is detected and the black screen goes away very quickly. So I don't have MOO 1.3 and likely won't, as I have followed the best advice I could find without success. I did not try to download Sirian's turorial, without 1.3 there is n't much point getting practice downloading for Imperia. I wish you all luck. I will lurk and see how it all comes out with a lot of interest. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to make it work, and son of a gun I was right. This might be easier:

What OS are you using? If you're trying to run the game in XP you'll probably need to follow the instructions on Sirians page about what to do to try that.
If you got the "full game" from JonSullvan's site you don't need to patch anything, just unzip that entire thing into a folder on your hard drive. WinZip should have a help screen if you're having trouble trying to figure out how to unzip something.
Is it too early to say game complete, report written, when does the next one start?
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.
Quote:Originally posted by Brackard@Apr 6 2004, 02:18 AMCongrats on your rapid completion. Not too early to ask about the next event. I need to see what unfolds with the first game to better judge how to line up future games. Decisions about Imperium Two won't be made until after Imperium One closes. Then we'll see. When the Epics opened, we generally kept to two or three events open simultaneously, which allowed those with more time/interest to play more. Those with less time/interest had to pick and choose. When we got to where more of the games were variants and special scenarios, we slowed things down to let everyone play each game, and let SG's or other games fill the gaps for busier players. I intend to try to match supply to demand. That seems to work best for long term stability. I take it we have one vote cast in favor of more supply. ![]() - Sirian

Anyone been successful taking a screenshot other than by using DosBox? I just run MOO on XP natively and I have tried 3 different screen capture utilities, plus Alt+Prntsrcn, none of which seemed to be able to do the job of taking a shot of a full-screen DOS application. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to get MOO to run in windowed mode, or I think I would be set. Nevertheless, at this moment I seem to be a bit stuck for options, other than getting DosBox set up and figuring out how to use a screen capture program in conjunction with that.
Any ideas, people, or shall my report (once I get around to playing the game) be screenie-less? I'd really prefer not to go to the hassle of setting up DosBox if all I need it for is to be able to do screen captures. |
