Your running MOO is compatibility mode right? Which screenshot utilities did you try?

Yeah, count one vote for another event. I'd been anxiously waiting for this to open up since you put up the announcement. I just about devoured it.

I'm just having fun and can't wait for report day. smile
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.

Sirian, count vote number two... but please hold off for a week or so... After over 470 turns of game... *bleh* I'm a little bit gamed out. I guess it was revenge for the game I played this morning that took about 50 minutes (on almost the same settings).

Btw. Anybody know of a way to check what turn it is, without having a contact who you haven't spied on?

Oh, and if anyone can document a longer game (in turns) than me for this one I'll ship him/her/it a sixpack of good Canadian beer/wine/liquid of choice (assuming you are of age) to chill out with.

Good hunting :war: to the rest of you!

Nod to same problem. Although haven't tried anything other than Fn + Prt Scr (laptop).

And yes running compatibility mode.

If there is a utility that will work I would love to know about it.

Current game year is available on the Stats screen under Race. You do have to go down two levels from the main screen, and it would be nice if it were available ON the main screen, but it's not. Gives you a reason to check the bar graphs more often and keep abreast of developments with rivals, though.

Second vote for "more, sooner" has been recorded. smile

As for revealing how many turns your game took, that qualifies as "spoiler information". We want players to play in isolation, without any indication of how things are going for others until the playing is done. Please save ALL information about your results for report day. If you want to talk about the game while the memories are still fresh, you can jump straight into writing your report -- just don't post it until Closing Day.

The spoiler rule is such a priority for how we run things, it's in the rules twice. lol You are allowed to say that you have completed the game and/or written your report, but nothing else. No apologies necessary, just please comply strictly with that rule. Thank you!

Thanks Sirian. Wish I knew that earlier - and noted.

I haven't tried to get screenshots yet, but has anyone gotten the sound to work yet in XP?

I get *some* of the FX sounds, while others make a 'chunk/clunk' noise, but I can't get the music to play at all...

About sound under XP, I play with sound off, so can't help you.

I have gotten both sound and music, running DosBox under WindowsXP. It is also good for screenshots. One thing I've noticed, as I like to run it in full-screen mode (a more immersive feel) is that screenshots taken in full-screen mode turn out terrible, like it's the wrong color palette or something. So switch to windowed mode (I think it's alt-enter) then take your screenshot, then go back to full-screen.

Actually, I am running MOO in XP not in compatibility mode, but it doesn't seem to make a difference if I do run in compatibility mode. I have a shortcut to Orion.exe and Orion.exe set up in the same way:
  • Program Tab->Run: Normal Window
  • Screen Tab->Usage: Window
  • Screen Tab->Window: Restore settings at startup enabled
  • Misc Tab->Windows shortcuts: All enabled
  • Compatibility Tab: None enabled
  • Memory Tab: Conventional/EMS/DPMI memory on auto, XMS disabled -- this is the only modification I seem to need to allow the program to run

The screenshot programs are all free ones I downloaded from the web: Bulent Screen Recorder, Screenshot Wizard 1.0, and MWSnap. The first two don't seem to have keyboard shortcuts for their snapshot commands, the last has a keyboard shortcut but won't take a picture while the DOS window is up; instead, it waits until that window is minimized.

If you know another utility that works while the DOS full-screen window is active, that would be fine, or else a way to get MOO to run in windowed mode (which would be even better.)
