[SPOILERS] scooter's thread: how to finish second
|
|
To make it more clear:
(first, the random roads is because one of my workers got stranded here with nothing to do for awhile when I had to shuffle some galleys to cover Ruff) That "c" is the only valid place I can squeeze a second city on this island. Get a lighthouse + granary and it's a solid spot to just work a bunch of FIN coast. I'll probably put Moai here. It makes up for all that coast I unknowingly wasted with my placement of 8 Mile. I'll just farm all of this more or less.
yeah it'll be nice once you build moai. you can borrow the iron tile to get granary, lighthouse, and moai built. you can chop the forest on the mainland into it too.

How's things?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Ok I guess I'll cobble together an update. I got Astronomy at end of turn. I had 5 nearly completed galleys sitting in the queues, so I whipped them all:
I just baaaaarely was able to finish Astronomy by working some weird tiles/builds, but such is life. 3 of those whipped galleys completed galleons EoT: The rest will complete shortly. I've also got crossbows building basically everywhere (nearly all those cities where I whipped galleons have half-completed crossbows in the queue), but I'm still not ready to move just yet. However, this pathetic little army is good for #1 in soldiers, so you could say everyone's running things a bit loosely right now. Some catapults will need to be added too. This qualifies as a "well-defended border city" right now: Verdict: not scary. Here's my crappy core before I pressed enter: Whipped a lot lately in prep for this, so the pop figures are awfully low. Whatever. I'm still putting minimum effort into this because this game is boring, so don't expect any awesomeness to come of the Astronomy play. Still, I can create SOME havoc out there, so I will. I feel like right about now is when I should be recruiting oledavy to team up since he lives for this kind of campaign .

I have to run.
Who will you attack?

Ok I owe you guys an update of course. So let me do a brief non-war update. This is cool:
Little astro island that is fairly close to me is going to be a priority. I found this awhile ago as you see, so I shifted gears a bit. The goal now is to lift the two nearest island cities off Ruff to secure my border with him, then colonize these islands pretty heavily. Lots of fun improvements on those tiles btw. I don't even have to defend them since nobody will even have Galleons for another 30T or so . On the war front, Ruff still doesn't have Feudalism:So no fear of longbows screwing it up. Anyways, here's the setup: Not too much planning here, just 2 full galleons for each of my two target cities. As you see by the signs, they've not exactly been defended spectacularly. So I open today's save to this: Nah, I'll probably get over 200g from the city captures alone. I went for the southern city first, and noticed he managed to get a fresh crossbow whipped in. I decided to just attack amphibiously so he wouldn't get more units in. Two units died softening the first crossbow, didn't lose anything else: Just a Courthouse this time: Anyways, I can't attach Bunch of Fruit amphibiously, so I just dropped off: Thankfully it's on flatland, so unless he reinforces navally (very possible), he's in trouble here. However, I'm giving him an out here: I don't know if I can capture many more cities, but I CAN pillage all his seafood, blockade his coast, and possibly raze a mainland city or two. I can basically do whatever I want, my galleons laugh at his triremes. It's not like he can whip a ton of Caravels either - he has no compass, let alone optics. OR I'll just leave him be if he hands it over. His choice. If I can extort him, I may go try to screw with Pindicator. Because why not, he IS running away with things after all. Hopefully Ruff recognizes this, because Pindicator is way ahead anyways and people desperately need to dogpile to have a prayer. Got a scientist EoT: Education or something maybe, we'll see.
Alright, Ruff took my deal:
Cool. I offered him his ivory back to keep the peace: If he accepts this and we get OB going again, this is happening: Up to you Ruff. Take the deal, and I'll screw around with Pin. He has Feudalism and pretty well defended cities so I likely can't really burn serious cities (maybe 1). It's not like I have a ton of crossbows anyways. BUT, I can most definitely do some serious pillaging. Blockades can only be done with ships that have movement > 4 AND Str > 8, so I can't do that unfortunately... But I can harass like crazy and just be all-out obnoxious while they hurry to get Astronomy. Should be fun. |
