Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

OSG1 - A Prod-Ductive Venture

I'd love to play a MOO succession game, especially since I never quite made it to a Civ game. And one with a reasonable level of training is probably a good idea, after all I've been playing a good 2-3 weeks now, or something like that.

Yeah, count me in. And don't spare the help/criticism!

As a number of folks like the idea of running all teams for this game from the same map, that's what we'll do. We have eleven players as of this writing, so I'll take six on Team One, leaving the rest for Team Two, with one slot available. A third team is possible if more folks show up. Also, the start file will be made available, so anybody not on any teams but wanting to play may grab the file and play solo ON THE CONDITION that I don't see any spoilers popping up in team threads. If you play this solo, keep the lip zipped until the SG teams are done, and then you may chime in with them, but not before.

Teams will not peek into the threads of other teams while their own team is still playing. Please all folks be courteous and not offer any spoiler information from other teams or solo games.

Hopefully teams will finish up within relatively close time frames so that one team isn't "done talking" before the other is ready to start, but that part is out of my hands. OK, here we go.

Team One - Da n00bz

Isit is one of the newest RB players. He came to us through Galactic Civilizations, where he joined our early SG efforts with that game. I didn't get to play with him for those. He's been very helpful with doing work to set up MOO instructions for WinXP, and he's a MOO vet but an RB newbie, so I'm grabbing him. I'm also taking four players who have little to no MOO experience.

Team Two

Everyone else is going with Zed to Team Two, which I won't presume to name.

Team One - ROSTER

Sirian
Charis
Jabah
Justus II
Isit
Garath

Team Two - ROSTER

Zed-F
Kylearan
Ozymandous
Kabuki
JMB

Caesar Augustus would like to play but isn't available until the end of the month. As far as I can tell, I've included everybody who signed up. If I missed anybody, or there are more signups, there's one slot left on team two and room for as many teams as there are folks who want to play.

Here's the galaxy we'll be playing in:

That was the second map I drew. The first was a deep dark hole to climb out of, which might have been fun at a different point in time, but was not appropriate to this scenario. Check out a glimpse:

As you can see, mostly hostile planets, and seriously hostile at that. Three normal environments within initial scouting range, but all three at six parsecs. Worse, the Silicoids were contending for the ones to the northeast. Worst of all, the second colony was Mineral Poor! This was like one of those Epic Fourteen Dud Starts ™, which was kind of ironic when trying to set up a normal environment for an introductory SG. lol

Anyway, I've got the start file for this SG in Slot 3.

And as you can see, I'm using slots 3 and 4 for this event. Each player can use whatever slots they want, but folks might want to BE CAREFUL about unzipping straight into their MOO directory, lest someone else have changed slots and the unzipping player accidentally overwrite, say, their Imperium One files. eek Don't fall asleep at the wheel, folks. You've been warned. smile

Grab the Start File for this game.

Zed will be in charge of Team Two. He'll start that team's thread at CivFanatics. I'll start Team One's thread.

A word about file naming conventions. I suggest starting all file names for upload (saves, pix) with osg1- and perhaps also with your team number. Thusly:

osg1-team1-2320ad.zip
osg1-team2-2480ad.zip
osg1-team1-2303ad.jpg
osg1-team2-found-the-bloody-psilons.jpg
osg1-team2-zeds-missile-boats.jpg

I think everyone playing is already familiar with the CivFanatics file upload system. If anybody needs help with that, speak up.

Here's a quick link to the MOO forum at CFC if anybody needs that.

I think that about covers it. Thanks to all who are participating. Lurkers welcome.

Well if team three does appear, I will play. I don't want to commit to team 2 as I have only gotten as far as downloading the game this morning. I want time to at least install and make sure it works.

Of course, I don't know if you want the totally clueless in these - I haven't played a single turn yet - I may easily lose the game during my turns... :axe:

Is the original Moo the 1994 version?

Yes. The game was first published in '92, saw a lot of sales in '93, and got its last patch in '94. We are using the 1994 version, v1.3

Team Two has several experienced players. That would be a good place to be, actually. You'd get a lot of support. If a third team does emerge, it will probably be less experienced, and may not even have a top notch veteran available to lead it. BamBam is busy, and Urugharakh is probably busy, too. There may not even be a third team. We'll see.

Head to my site and take advantage of the tutorial game/walkthrough. If you complete that, and play along through it, by the time you finish, you'd be far enough along to participate in the SG, if you want to. You should have time (a few days) to do that before Team Two runs all the way through its roster. If you were put on the end of the roster, I don't see any reason why you couldn't be involved. Definitely need at least the tutorial (or equivalent level of experience) under your belt, though.

I will let you know - don't know how much time I will have with a holiday weekend.
I don't know how interactive the tutorial is - keeping on-line on the road is a pain...

I've played the first turn for Team One and posted my report. I'm sure Zed will have Team Two up and running shortly. If you signed up, check in with your team. It may be your turn. smile

Team 2 is started and the first turn done, though CivFanatics seems to be a bit wonky at the moment.

Whoa, go away for a few days and things start jumping! I see that there may be one slot left on Team 2, so if it's not spoken for already, I'd like to sign up. Funny you should mention site-wonkiness, Zed -- I was unable to reach the Lounge for the last half-hour (just got back in).

Be seeing you...
