I'm hopeful that Oxy will resist Catwalk's advice on pushing so hard on culture. I learned in PBEM45 that too much culture is a problem because it leaves your opponent with little alternative other than to make war against you. I'm glad that Oxy went for Sumeria (and not INCA!!!!!), even if it is a bit boring/standard.

Also (holy rego triple!), if ruff keeps posting interesting pictures of the map, I may have to move him up in my Way Too Early to Tell pregame rating.

FIN is a bad pick. Not enough river on the map, and there is only one early commerce luxury of gold which is really far away. PHI is stronger on a smaller map of course, but Ruff doesn't really have any early game traits and that will hurt him as well. Peter or Pericles which he considered would have been better for sure.

I think Oxy has overcome his most (and potentially most serious hurdle): The Advice of the Walking Cat. Huzzah, sir! Well done!

I try not to take people to task for being rude, especially in their own threads, but Commodore's constant sniping at Noble just leaves a really poor impression on me. I'm certainly not above calling my opponents morons, idiots, jerks, etc. (although I try to contain that to chats I never post, or edit when I do), but the personal level he takes it to sits very poorly with me. It's not just that Noble's play or posts make him upset, he apparently hates Noble as a person, and if you honestly feel that way about somebody on RB you should probably just keep it to yourself.


I think I'm just making him angry though, so I'll keep out from now on.

Funny how you mention that Bob, I had no idea because I never read his threads. The enmity is mutual for the reasons I've described at the end of our PBEM 38 thread - I suppose he hates me because I hate him. I like to take opportunities to point out the repeated flaws in his maps because he likes to push them on people, but there's no need to retread ground when I've already explained my disdain for him. I also can't fathom what there is to say about me in the context of this game, haha.
