I've been studying the restricted list of leaders/civilizations and to flesh out Bobchillingworth's idea, perhaps we could go restricted but ban Financial? Or we could just ban Pacal, Capac and Willem? My reasoning is that Capac especially seems to be comparatively too powerful and the other two probably edge out ahead of the others also.

Banning some of the restricted leaders is fine, although there are more than four really strong options without any bans, so there's no reason why everyone can't end up with a powerful pick. Like, Pacal, Capac and Willem are all def. really strong, but so are Sury and either Indian leader.
I don't care too much either way about Barbarians. Having them off favors leaders with strong expansion & early builder potential, but we're probably all going to end up with those anyway.
My current play window is about 8 PM - 1 AM EST. I can sometimes also get them at lunch at work.

I will consider the barbarians decided as off then, I trust that is ok based on the above.
I agree with your point on options, I suppose Capac of Inca just looked like an outlier to me.
Your play window meshes well with both Sians and my own. Let's hope gingereagle1969's fits in so nicely.
01:00 -> 06:00 Bobchillingworth
14:00 -> 22:00 Sian
19:00 -> 00:00 Khan
All times in GMT.

I'll go with the majority on any leader restrictions
at the moment I can slot in anywhere except the wee small hours of the morning (GMT).
08:00 to 19:00 would currently be ideal, but, if I finally get a job, that may change, so apologies if I start holding the game up due to shift clashes.
PBEM12 - Shaka of Inca [6/6*] PBEM18 (Apps) - Augustus of China [4/4*] PBEM31 - Hannibal of Greece [jnt2-4/5*] PBEM72 - Willem of Oranje - Dutch [3/4*] PBEM74A -Catherine of Babylon [4/4][*ended early]

then you should ideally be slotted just before me, cause even if i might be able to play as early as 14gmt, it'll most likely first be somewhere around 18-19gmt that i would get them off and onwards.

That seems like a good plan. Can we please get your confirmation on whether you would like to ban any leaders if we play restricted? My current thought is to maybe just ban Capac of Inca.
As an addendum which I forgot to mention but which is incredibly important for me, is game speed. I hate normal speed. Can I please confirm everyone is happy with quick?
Once the above is decided, we just need a mapmaker with some free time. Fortunately, this site seems blessed with an abundance or particularly skilled mapmakers so hopefully we will find one. Oh and someone to give us a random person to start with so we can begin picking.
Order (without a set starting person) would therefore be Bobchillingworth -> gingereagle1969 -> Sian -> Khan

Hah, I had assumed we'd play on normal speed. Quick is going to lead to an extremely fast pace, I think. I'm okay with it as long as everyone is cool with that.
Banning the Inca is fine by me.

Apologies for only mentioning at it this juncture and thank you for being willing to continue regardless.
gingereagle said he would go with the majority, so unless Sian has a strong objection, I think we are all settled on all the major matters.
Difficulty: Mapmaker discretion.
Barbarians: Off
Diplomacy: as limited as practically possible, and a caveat of no secret rebus diplomacy by city or unit naming. I assume this is basically AI diplomacy, you can offer trades ingame etc but no words or attempts at proper diplomacy.
Bans: default bans (War 'Phants, Espionage, etc) I assume this includes SoZ and Great Lighthouse. Please say so now if this is not amenable to you.
Starting Units: Standard
Map Size: Standard'ish ... some 8-12 cities per player
Mapmaker Guidelines: I would prefer the map not to be mirrored. I suppose, my vision is for you to randomly roll a few maps until you find out with some interesting geography then amend it to make sure the capitals and some surrounding land is suitable. If in doubt, make it more lush. More lush is more options which is good. I would suggest basing the map off Totestra, which was used in PBEM68 ... no mirroring and with naval units not being totally irrelevant.
Picks: Restricted. Inca banned.

This might be the fastest I've ever seen a game get organized. If a kind soul would be willing to invest an hour or two in rolling maps and accepting leader submissions, we can probably get started before the day is up.

it's certainly a good omen. It may be worth finding out the game difficulty before we pick leaders as it could make a big difference.
