Our culture went down by 1Icon_Culture and I am not sure why. Maybe just a UI glitch, as I have the capital working our dyes tile. Krill's military score is increasing as I figured it would with god of the forge.

EE is in next turn, first slinger due in 2, second in 5. I would like to chop out one of them, Do you think it will be safe to chop out the slinger in Mecca and run with a two slinger defense? Or should I head for horseback riding after slinger two is done and chop that out. We will need Military tradition for that card though. We could chop out a second warrior and that would not be all that bad. After the builder of course. EDIT: Looks like Krill got one of his HS pillaged, and I am guessing either a Barb got past his defenses as I do not see him and Ichabod at war.

Overview
[Image: PBEM9_037_overview.jpg]

Mecca will take the dyes tile back next turn, which should also speed up slinger, and builder production.

Our scouting.

I opted to go north of Russia, I would like to get the most out of this scout by meeting as many CS and players as possible.

NOTE: Problem uploading my screenshots. Going to have to try again later.
EDIT: Fixed issue, screenshots are loaded.

Glancing again over turn 37, I am thinking we risk it and save the slinger in mecca for a chop. No tiles to really play around with so overflow will be whatever is left with one turn left.
Reply

Somewhat dwelling on this last turn, and I think I must not of had Cairo work that tile. It just does not make sense. I know I was messing around to see if Mecca would still grow, and It didn't so I think I made a bad move there.

Chopping the slinger at Mecca, overflowing into the Campus sounds good to me.

The more I think about Krill and God of the Forge, I'm getting nervous about early conflict. He has cheap Encampments and will most likely get an early GG. He will be a military terror in the Classical and Medieval eras. Kumasi might be a stretch too far until we get a technological advantage. If we settle GREEN (with Encampment on the hill 1NE of Chocolate) that should lock down the area nicely, but I'm not sure that is the best move in the short term. The combination of GREEN + capture of Kumasi will surely catch Krill's attention, and the last thing we need is for him to turn his greedy eyes upon us in an era where he has clear advantages. We don't want to be building walls until we have the production card in place and can piggyback a chop into something (encampment!).

Here's something to mull over ... It might be best to avoid planting GREEN or capturing Kumasi. Krill doesn't have a good site available towards GREEN anyway, and if we maintain a large buffer we can steer his early aggression elsewhere. We have a decent amount of space to backfill east, and can capturing Hong Kong instead. This way we can buy time to out-tech him, and buy time for Defensive Tactics and the +100% walls card. We have room for at least 7 decent cities in addition to GREEN: the two we currently have, plus northern Sugar, NE chocolate, southeast of the capital on the other side of the mountains, east towards Hong Kong, and western plains. In all likelihood we can fit another on the river directly south of Hong Kong even if the continent does not extend further east. If we leave GREEN until a later plant we can do so with builder labor on hand to immediately chop out walls + the encampment. Just throwing that out there as another option to consider.

I am not sure that the effort required to take Hong Kong is going to be a good alternative. That takes all of our forces far away, and I am worried that Krill sets his sites on Kumasi. With the early production bonus He may very well take the city, and that would not be good. That will basically nullify our expansion out that way. The city on the green dot is still not going to be easy to take if we have horse, worst case we have to chop out walls. As much as I like the idea, I would rather fight Krill with Kumasi backup and steer him away from us, as opposed to just letting him get the city.

EDIT: Also We are somewhat beelining IZ's, and Hong Kong will make them all stronger. We can take that CS at any time I think, unless we really drew the short straw and are in the middle of the map, but i don't think so.

EDIT: We will need to keep a close eye on were he puts his next city, and if he goes for the commerce CS or not.

Maybe instead of green we settle the spot just NW of Mecca. That way we are still close to Kumasi and it is a good city site, after some builder love.

EDIT: That spot also gets us another luxery without irrigation.

Score has not changed much. I did confirm that there is a UI glitch with the tile swaps. As Cairo was working that tile on turn start. Also we went down to 5Icon_Culture when I swapped the tile back to Mecca. EE has a sliver left so 1 more turn. Not the end of the world as Cairo can finish its slinger and Mecca will be at two turns. Hopefully dropping the production card won't add a turn, if so though should be a bit more overflow so not bad.

I included a pic of mecca so I don't linger on the culture again.
Even though the UI says 5, we are making 6.

Also an overview
[Image: PBEM9_038_overview.jpg]

Growth in mecca in 8 turns and the capital without the horses will still grow in 5. I think I will work that so size 5 times nicely with the settler finishing, masking the build, as well as keeping 4 tiles worked.

Here is an idea, build a settler in both cities, then have both of them build builders? We have the settler card slotted next turn. That may be the most efficient way to get out two more cities. That is a risk but I think longer term we will be able to swap out of the settler card and into the builder card sooner. I do not think it will time nicely with PP though so maybe the route we are taking is the best one.

As far as city 4 is concerned, are you think the spot towards Kumasi, the one with two marble by the river or settling towards Hong Kong. That area still needs explored though and is risky with our current Military of 2 slingers and 1 warrior. We may be able to get to the chocolate spot though.

Finally scouting
[Image: PBEM9_038_scout.jpg]

Nothing new on settler view so I just took a regular pic. I think I can sneak onto that rice tile with out pissing off Russia. I can send a 1g for 1g trade, or offer friendship, what do you think?
Reply

Or consider if we should pillage his HS, he is far enough away I don't think he can do much.
Reply

I would avoid war at present. The Russian borders look solid, so will you be able to enter onto the rice next turn? There will be minimal value to pillaging the HS I think. Better to not make enemies at this stage of the game.

I favor builder at Mecca. Chop into the slinger for max overflow into Campus, then improve the 2nd horses and the capital's Stone. With slinger complete we can finish Archery and continue on to HBR, and with Campus complete we can plant the 1st CH at a discount at City #3.
Reply

Yea, that does seem like the best route. As much as I like to try and maximize card benefits, that second campus is key to our strategy. That is what I intend to do.
