I don't really mind pitching in but I would like some indication of how long I'll be piloting this busted civ. I've been making very neutral choices due to being spoiled but this isn't really sustainable indefinitely. That said, it's a nice diversion from time to time so I'll keep going so the game can continue limping along.

[TECH] Pitboss 38 IT and Tech Issues Thread

I personally think there is still quite a bit of game left, but can see where our recent lag could begin to infect others and make the game truly irreparable. I'd be disappointed, but will go with the consensus on this one.
OH is putting in the turn-player effort at the moment so he should represent our official opinion, but my two cents: Why do we even start these major pitbosses if we don't play them out? There are still 18 civs alive and nobody is AFAIK close to reaching a win condition yet. I guess I'm not too spoilerish when I say that our team was out of this game by turn 60, but it has still been fun struggle since then.
I guess you can't force people to play if they don't want (I would not have a chance to do it alone), but I feel that early finishes are also deadly to our MP culture. It's not too motivating to commit a decent amount of a time to a game over 6+ months when there is a real chance that the game just dies.
Well if TBS is going to be back to a normal schedule I'd like to give it a bit more of a try. If the turn pace doesn't improve for the next 4-5 turns I'd be fine with ending it though.
BGN's spoiledness could be fixed by Elkad or Naufrager taking over Mongolia and he could take over theirs - do either of you fancy that?
Completed: RB Demogame - Gillette, PBEM46, Pitboss 13, Pitboss 18, Pitboss 30, Pitboss 31, Pitboss 38, Pitboss 42, Pitboss 46, Pitboss 52 (Pindicator's game), Pitboss 57
In progress: Rimworld
I have no objection either way: not upset if the game is called soon, or also to play to the end and provide some manner of intrigue for my neighbours. It is hard to stay engaged at 1-2 turns per week though.
Hey, guilty as charged this turn. I didn't realize the turn had rolled - but I suppose that says how often I think to look when the turns are as drawn out as they have been

When the turns aren't regular you start to fall out of a routine. I don't mind getting shifted to another backwater civ, or I can go for the Lord Parkin award and end up taking them all over one by one. Many other civs have reported much less frequently than some of Joey's neighbors though so that is my only real issue staying on Joey's civ. Since Elkad doesn't really report I could catch his turns if he wanted to swap or he could just do both at this point if he wants to keep going. Let me also state for the record here that this map is far too big and that we haven't yet learned our lesson from these really big games (18, 38, etc.) that the map needs to be small enough so that the mid-to-endgame civs aren't too massive to enjoyably operate. If this game continues the larger civs will only get bigger and the commitment even more intense. It's a fine balancing act to provide enough room for early opening phase expansion to be able to be more meaningful than 4 cities and rush to horchers but I knew on T1 that I'd rather be dead than winning by T200 based solely on map size. But we're here now and I'll gladly help keep the game going if that's what you decide to do. |
