Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

A new mod enters the ring - Introducing "Close to Home"

I get the same error message NobleHelium had. Neither installing in MyGames nor running the game as administrator changes anything.

Combat Log also doesn't work properly. Hits are not recorded.

Generally I recommend to install the mod here:

[C:\.. or where you installed the game]\2K Games\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods

If I understand it correctly then NobleHelium did change something related to file permissions on his system. Maybe that did contribute to the fix.

The combat log gets written to disk? It's not part of the normal save game format?

No it is a file written to disk outside of the save game format. The whole point was to be able to copy the text of the in-game log. That was the easiest way to do

The combat log information is now available outside of the game. You will find it here:

[....]\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword

It's called Combat.log.

As you can see the order is reversed. Very important to know is that this Combat.log is reset everytime you start a new game, so be aware. This was necessary because otherwise the file just grows to big.

You can also find my tracking file at the same location called:

CtHBalance.log

It tracks data for singleplayer games or if you are the pitboss host. I don't expect you to understand the information in there and it was only mentioned for transparency.

I strongly disagree with this.  Installing the mod here is exactly what causes the file permissions problems, because the game installation folder requires Administrator permissions to modify.  If you install the mod in My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Mods then there should be no permissions issues.  If your install is a bit different (i.e. not BTS installed on top of base Civ4) then the folder path will be different but I would look for an equivalent folder in your My Documents\My Games path.

EDIT: I see now that civac said he tried installing it in the My Games folder but still has the permissions issues. Did you actually extract a new version of the files into that folder, or did you copy over the existing install into the folder? The latter probably doesn't fix it because the file permissions will be set from when the mod was installed in the game installation folder. Doing a fresh extract into the My Games folder worked for me.

Yes, I read your description of the fix. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I did extract the files anew though I did so in my download folder. I didn't think that would matter but I will try extracting it to Documents\MyGames\... directly.

Did you ever install the mod in the game directory? Any chance you have two installs of the mod existing and you loaded the wrong one?
