[PB60] Amicalola and Vanrober: Gone' Fishing!

I thought about it for PB59, and the thing i was afraid of is not having any boost on any building but lighthouses, i felt like i would need so much more skill to make her work than something with EXP, or so... But yeah i think its really nice.

Oh, I forgot to add that to my post! duh  But yeah, I'm considering Lieu-Ye too. It's definitely good to hear confirmation of strength from the only person who's actually played it.

Few building boosts can be intimidating for sure, but I don't think it's unworkable. Through both self-sabotage (PB56) and Roman-sabotage (PB58), the area I've had the most practice in is catching up from behind during the secondary settling phase (when everyone has an established core, but there's still unclaimed territory on the fringes). It's pretty much the only area that I'd feel comfortable calling myself competent. lol

ORG/SPI would have a similar 'slow' problem, which is why I'd consider SPI with a pure expansion trait instead (I'm seriously considering Isabella, who has the bonus of never being played before). But it's not totally worthless for expansion, and ORG/PRO or ORG/SPI would force us to skip some buildings (I think I build too many).

I think its playable without any expansion trait. But its definitely harder, and i feel really unskilled to make work a civ without any help of buildings. Not only that i would feel really bad to play without any economical trait. I would fear Isabella for that. But as i ve always said. Im not the main player here, so its really up to you with what you want to play, i also think we can probably manage to do decent with any of this choices. And i feel really nice to learning playing any of this with you.

If i were chosing i would chose ORG+Something, even AGR, but at least an Economical trait.

I would think too on the civ. Which leaders are we pairing with what civ? Any strategical aprox?

That's a great point about civs, which are very dependent on leader and starting BFC. Something that is increasingly appealing to me is Mehmed (EXP/ORG) or Zara Yaqob (CRE/ORG) of the Aztecs. It involves an unused (by me) trait, alongside what I consider the strongest trait. We can research a religion early on, and grab granaries, forges, and sacrificial altars in every city. Then we whip out a swarm of knights and hopefully kill someone with them.

I would also consider Zara Yaqob of the Incans, especially if there is a dry grain at our capital. I want to try the Incans out, and I believe Zara is the best leader for it. Alternatively, Julius Caesar (IMP/ORG) alongside a religion could be very powerful with them.

If we take an AGG leader, I would prefer Shaka (AGG/EXP) or Kublai (AGG/CRE); probably of the Zulu. Any other good Aggressive picks you'd like to try?

One other idea that comes to mind: what about Mehmed (EXP/ORG) of the Vikings? If PB58 is anything to go by, faster ships are NUTS, and I'd love to get more familiar with not just warfare but specifically sea warfare.

I really like the mehmet of aztecs idea. Same with zara of incas. I would prefer the first over the second but the starting tech of aztecs are really bad, so it would be really dependent of the starting screen.

I would feel more confident with a better economical trait like ORG paired with AGR, so Hammurabi would be my choice.

And vikins as civ sounds terrible strong for me. But again it will depend so much of the starting screenshot, as you said. I also feel a bit unskilled into the sea warfare. Goot time to learn together xD. I would like to play this kind of underplayed civs, sounds fun too!

Amicalola, here is your starting location, with the usual caveats about the dangers of fog-gazing:

Playing: PB74
Played: PB58 - PB59 - PB62 - PB66 - PB67
Dedlurked: PB56 (Amicalola) - PB72 (Greenline)
Maps: PB60 - PB61 - PB63 - PB68 - PB70 - PB73 - PB76

There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

Ok I just woke up here’s some quick phone thoughts:

- this reminds me a little of a past map. Maybe PB56? twirl

- fishing is a great starting tech here, even if we don’t WB first. It basically reads “+2 commerce”

- the early worker doesn’t have much to do, while the early work boat only has a clams.

- I don’t like religion here. The start is quite tech heavy (Bronze Working, Sailing, AH)

- CHA might be really good here, with no early happiness. Alternatively, IND for an early Moai at the capital. I think the capital wants to whip out settlers extremely quickly, or build Moai.

- Vikings have perfect starting techs here (fishing, hunting). How do we feel about them?? We have a few leaders I’d be happy with. We should also consider other fishing civs; how about Greece, to try out the new phalanx unit? Or Rome with an AGG leader could be lots of fun? Or EXP/PRO Carthage?

It looks like we’re meant to decide whether or not to move to sugar. But it doesn’t seem instantly appealing. We’ll need to sim it out.

Edit: is the corn irrigated or dry?

Looks like a lake tile next to it, so lake-freshwater.
