[SPOILERS] Lurkers Thread - Well someone has to do it

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for a very informative reply Square Leg! I can see now that building multiple nodes has its uses. I will experiment some more on weak vs powerful units, because I am not 100% convinced yet. I suppose the code is the same, but it just feels different.

And this, in a nutshell, is why I'd have paid the Danegeld, if I were in Sciz's shoes.alright

On the other hand, I do see the confusion that Rowain was discussing. For one thing, it appeared that Sciz was thinking of 50g/city site as the deal, when it was really 50g/city site and Mist leaves you alone to get into the midgame. For another - Sciz was more confident in his warriors than Mist was. But I think the big thing is that Sciz, especially as a builder civ, is used to thinking of early war as a lose-lose situation, while Mist is planning to war for profit (and might be able to pull it off, since he's Doviello). And, Sciz might be right about being able to drag the Doviello down with him. Mist's gameplan requires the wars to be profitable, not just successful. This piece, we'll have to wait and see.

For that matter - Sciz might lose this game, but I guarantee I'll think twice about trying to extort him in PBEM3 smile, in the event I have that option.

On the other hand - I do think Ilios is making the right decision here. Trust Mist to keep Sciz out of the game, but provide just enough help and deterrence that the war stays out of his lands. Yes, Mist would be willing to Molotov-Ribbentrop Sciz, but it's better to just keep him from having the option of pulling a Barbarossa afterward.

Quote:I have decided not to build the Training Yard, instead building A Kilmorph Soldier.

Allow me to explain my reasoning:

I want 4 str 5 units. To build Swordsmen I need a Training Yard.

1 Training Yard = 67 hammers
4 Swordsmen (40 hammers) = 160 hammers
-----------------------------
Total = 227 hammers

I only need a Kilmorph Temple to build Kilmorph Soldiers, which I already built.

4 Soldiers of Kilmorph (60 hammers) = 240 hammers

So that's only a difference of 13 hammers, and I get to convert those Soldiers back to hammers once I get better units.

Plus, the Soldiers count as Dwarves, so have double movement in hills, which could come in handy in Sciz' unroaded, hilly realm.

Some interesting analysis by Illios. But I think he's forgetting something:
If he plans to use the SoK offensively, and if he succeeds, he'll probably accumulate quite a few XP. After a couple promotions he'll be reluctant to sacrifice his Soldiers to recoup just half their hammer cost. In FFH, more so than BtS, you don't replace experienced but outdated units: you upgrade them. Which means that the Swordsmen/SoK hammer difference works against him - and will get worse for every additional unit he builds. Not to mention he'll want that Training Yard for Champions eventually. And no one should be paying a premium for SoK just for their Dwarven racial promotion.
(If, on the other hand, he doesn't intend to intervene, then he should just build more warriors. Cheap bronze warriors with their innate city defense bonus are the most effective (and efficient) deterrence at this stage.)

So where is this legendary game where Sullla held off 6(?) people and won? I saw stuff about PBEM2 but I don't see any threads from him there.

The legendary Sulla game is pitboss 2 and can be found in the completed Pitboss section.

http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/forum...rune=&f=38 is the direct link to that games forum. As you can see that particular thread got a rather large number of views and replies!

Sulla teamed up with Speaker for that game and you will often see them refered to as Spulla. Their thread

The dogpile was actually a 5 v 1 and they were unco-ordinated attackers but it was impressive nevertheless.

As the game ended a long time ago you have to adjust your display options to show older threads.

I'm starting to think Ilios isn't actually going to be damaged by this dogpile attempt; it sounds like only Serdoa and Darrell/Sunrise are really committed to anything, while Sciz getting his hands on some copper ought to tie up Mist for long enough that he'll be a non-factor. And Ilios' just in case war preparations ought to be able to stave off bloodpets/warriors from the south.

Just like to say its really nice to see every players thread updated pretty much daily in this game, rather than just half of them
