Turn 31

My workers finished chopping and the settler for the city 2 will be finished EOT 32. Now "Agassi" will start supporting the new city and "Borg" immediately starts putting cottages up. (As said earlier, if I would not have met other civs, Pottery would not have finished in time)

The scout found Viqsi's borders in the SE (most likely 2nd city). Next turn I will be wiser. Hydra has never showed up so he must have gone a different way.

Hydra switched to Slavery and whipped his capital. That sounds like there is another finished settler.

@Oldharry: If other civs do not have Pottery, I should get only 23 beakers (as I did on T22, when I had not met anyone). I simply cannot figure out how I end up with 24 beakers. There is something fishy with my math or the formula.

Now I really need to open my sandbox again and start planning my micro for the coming turns. I can play 4-5 turns with my current plan, but then I really should know how to proceed.

I've got access to a calculator now so I think you've done this:

beakers * known tech bonus
17 * 1.06 = 18.02 = 18
* pre-req bonus
18 * 1.4 = 25.2 = 25

But if you turn the equation around it comes out right:
beakers * pre-req bonus
17 * 1.4 = 23.8 = 23
* known tech bonus
23 * 1.06 = 24.38 = 24

I know it disagrees with this http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy...search.php but I'm not sure how else to explain it... There is probably a tutorial in the C&D or micro thread on the intersite game that has the latest thinking, but I couldn't find it with a quick glance.

Thanks Old Harry,
that would indeed explain it, but as you said, it is not aligned with the formula at the Civfanatics site. I'll try to search an explanation somewhere or maybe I raise the question at general discussion thread.

Turn 32

Now this was an interesting turn smile

Domestically, I finished the settler, Agassi moved onto the forest and next turn starts chopping for the work boat. Borg put the first turn into cottage. It is time to get those financial cottages up as I start growing again.

In other news, Hydra finally showed up. 3 turns later than expected, I have no idea what kind of circling he has done. Now Hydra has an interesting choice, whether he will move next to the warrior. I'm not yet sure, what I would do if he is bold enough to advance. If this would be an AW game, I would definitely attack, but in this situation, showing mercy could earn me some goodwill. It is difficult to evaluate the value of that.

In the south, I surprisingly met Azza at Viqsi's borders (scouts are on the same tile). Again, if this was an AW game, I would enter Viqsi's borders and would try to sit on some resource and scout his capital, but now I will play it nice and circle around her borders.

In the darkness, Azza founded as expected his 2nd city. Hydra researched a tech that I assume to be the Wheel. If he next selects Pottery I should be able to beat him to religion. I have started to fall a bit behind in demos as I have stagnated my growth and used last 10 turns for building a worker and a settler, but now situation will start improving again. My only worry is Sareln's huge GNP (I got his graphs at the end of the turn). He should not be able to create such a high rate (36) at this point in game without financial bonus.

What will you do if Hydra moves to the same tile your warrior is standing on?

A good point. I have not even thought about that. Maybe he does not too. crazyeye This kind of things show that I am really a green player.

Probably I will just go N or NW, so that I can protect my improved tiles. The best scenario for me would be that Hydra realizes that he is not welcome, turns back and goes scouting someone else.

Turn 33

I do not want to spam screenshots too much so this time the main points are only in bullets:

Domestical stuff
  • Moved settler onto grassland hill so that city 2 can be founded next turn
  • Revolted into slavery
This is pretty standard move here for a reason.

Other news
  • Hydra moved next to my warrior and retreated immediately back to where he started. We'll see what he does next. smile
  • Sareln whipped to size 2. Probably finished a settler.
  • Hydra grew to size 3.

Turn 34

The main news of this turn was founding "Roland Garros" (not much imagination there, but hey, it's my favorite Grand Slam). RG will work two turns plains hill forest and 1 turn grassland forest. Thanks to a chop, RG will have work boat ready EOT36 and after that it needs 4 turns until it hits size 2.

The capital will finish the 2nd warrior next so that the hammers will not decay. And yes, it's time to start with binary research so I turned tech off for one turn.

Hydra did not advance last turn either, maybe he turns around now..

Here is what I know of Viqsi's land. Unfortunately her culture blocks scouting further east and I was tempted to declare and enter borders and thus improve my chances of circumnavigation, but finally I decided against it since I did not want to take the diplo hit. Maybe it would have been neglectable, maybe not..

In the darkness, Hydra planted his 2nd city and Viqsi grew to size 3. Sareln is currently the only one without second city, but I expect that it will change next turn or latest turn after that.

Turn 35

Domestically this was quiet turn, chop came in and work boat needs only two more hammers.

Hydra moved out of sight. There were only two possibilities A & B:

Either he moved to "A" and plans to go NW-NW next turn. Or he turned back and moved onto "B". In hindsight I should probably have moved to a tile 1N of my current position so that I could potentially kill his scout, but I played this turn pretty quickly since I was in a hurry, but I wanted to pass the turn ASAP. This game is moving a bit slowly..

Sareln finished a tech (AH) and settled his 2nd city. He might be going next towards religion, but I should have ~3turns lead, which should hold despite his impressive GNP.

Turn 36

This time I managed to finish a couple of things dancing

1. Work Boat
- More food!
2. Warrior
- I am the only one with 2 warriors, Sareln does not even have one according to my C&D. I don't really need warriors right now, but I think it was efficient not to let hammers decay and I will definitely find use for this warrior later as a military police.
3. Mysticism
- Next turn I have to decide whether I go with Meditation or Polytheism..

In other news, I saw no sign of Hydra and I moved my warrior back to the hill. There is a chance that Hydra is still on that "A" tile shown in the last post. Well, if he runs now past me, it's not that big a deal. I can annoy him with my 2nd warrior if required. Anyways, I think there is about a 50 % chance that he is already on his way towards the centre.

Viqsi researched the Wheel and I assume that Pottery is next on her list. My scout is moving away from her corner of the map and will go NW or SW next.
