RBP3 [SPOILERS] - Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya)

RefSteel Wrote:Yeah. I'd look at this in more detail, but I'm frankly getting sick of Civ and its buggy behavior. Are you saying there are now 16 food in the bin? Because that should be impossible - we just grew with 34/34 food in the bin, and with our granary that should translate to 17. Whatever. No more impossible than 101 hammers and one turn to completion magically turning into 99 hammers and 2 turns to completion for no reason. Yay, civ!

I'm at work, and won't be able to log into the game until sometime tonight, if then. I have various plots, plans, and ideas that I'm reluctant to post because, whatever, Civ will just turn on Avoid Hammers or something and invalidate everything.

I was hoping you would not take this so hard... however, I quite understand why you do.

At least no one has showed up with a negative SoD bug yet?... Ok that's weak... pathetically weak.

Only one straw I can come up with. Krill paused the game WHILE THE TURN WAS IN MID ROLL. Could this have caused some weird behavior, and if so, should we ask for a reload?

And yes, I'm quite certian that there are 16/36 hammers. I just logged in to check. Again, should we ask for a reload?

I would like to post this in the IT thread. What do you think?

Quote:We we're hit with something we think has to be a bug when the turn rolled, and we may be asking for a reload to the very end of last turn to see if it works like it should when the turn rolls properly.

This is the 2nd time in the last few turns we've encountered a bug, though the other one sorted itself out after an hour or so.

This is not one that can sort itself out however.

We had whip cascaded into a 1 turn settler. Game showed 1 turn. Calculation was 101/100 hammers. The city was also going to grow, as it had enough food in the box to do so, even while building a settler. The end result was we wound up with a settler with 99/100 hammers and 16/36 food in the box... which frankly should be IMPOSSIBLE for a city with a grainery that just grew. How can it possibly have less than 17/36?

One grasping at straws explanation is that Krill was also in game when it rolled, and he paused the turn in mid roll for some reason. Not sure if this would be capable of causing the game to do something odd or not.

Unless someone can explain this behaviour, we would like to ask for a reload to see if the game could properly calculate things on the turn roll.

I'm probably going to bed in an hour or less. If I don't hear from you in that time, I'll leave it up to you to decide what to do I guess. I'm for asking for a reload to see if it fixes the issue, but I do not wish to do so unless you are in agreement.

Wait, what happened? You had a city grow while building a settler? I see a stream of posts but not a lot of coherent detail...?

OK, we cascade whipped up a settler, with the last whip being a 3 whip into an aqueduct. There were enough rolover hammers from the duct that we had what should have been a 1 turn settler. Should have been 101/100. The agme agreed that the settler would, indeed, complete in a turn.

The city also should have grown, as there was enough food in the box for it to do so. Should have had 17/36 food in the box when this turn started.

What happened after the turn rolled was: The settler has 99/100 hammers, and the city, which just grew, has 16/36 food in the box, which should be impossible. How can a city with a grainery grow and not have at least 17/36.

For how the cascade worked, look at page 90 of this thread for the Huckwang Valley spreadsheet.

Or, just look here:

I can't explain the 16/36 food behavior at all. Pretty sure there's nothing else inbetween the steps where growth is calculated and the granary's food retention is calculated. The only thought I had was that the granary hadn't existed long enough to fill its hidden store, but that's not the case. So I can't explain it.

The hammer behavior at least is possible, if something happened to make you produce less hammers between the last time you saw the city and the turn rollover. This could include inter-turn processing of other players. One example is temporarily losing a hammer tile to culture and gaining it back the same turn but having the laborer get assigned elsewhere. Or somehow losing happiness then regaining it. I haven't looked at a map lately so I don't know if that's possible with your city. But that's the general idea, if anything that happened to another player in interturn processing affected your hammers before the game got to your city. It's possible but I don't know what would have caused it here.

I'm also wondering if there was a common cause for both misfires. Maybe the granary worked correctly to 17/36 then something subtracted a food, and since you're building a settler, subtracted a hammer too. Did the city grow over the health cap, maybe?

On turn 141 Everything appeared as the spreadsheet says, including the game telling us the settler would complete in 1 turn.

The city did not grow over the health cap (The red + field on the spreadsheet is how much health we have to spare). The city does not have any boarders, so could not lose a tile. Every tile the city was working other than a corn was the exact same tile, a floodplain farm.

EDIT: Oh, and I was in game when the turn rolled, so nothing happened in between when I saw the city and the turn rolling. That I was in game is why I know that Krill paused the game mid turn roll. I saw it happen.

The only odd thing of consequence I can think of is the AP vote was announced on the turn, but the vote failed, and our only deal with that person is Open Boarders. We DO have 4 hammers in that city from AP buildings, but that wouldn't explain 2 missing hammers, not 4, nor the food deal)
