Woohoo! Big news: we met Broker33 in the very South. I sent him an in-game hail, as he won't be able to see our Scout (moved SW) next turn, and will draft an e-mail later. Scout revealed Tundra to South, as well as a Wolf nearby.
Move Tyler NE, keeps his options open of whether to keep going East or swicth back West.
Primo moved SW and revealed that Sunrise does indeed have Elelphants, and they're on a river for a bonus commerce.

Yay! Things happened Great to have met Broker, another discount for mysticism hopefully! Also he seems quite far which is rather good.
I haven't logged in but everything looks good and it seems we have some plan for the next 2-3 turns. I agree with moving Tyler NE. I initially thought moving him SE but that's our land anyway and will be revealed sooner or later.
Interesting that sunrise has elephants, but were somewhat expecting that. I am quite convinced that either everybody or everybody on the same continent has them.

OK, I finally got around to sending something to Broker - at least it was before the next turn started!
Quote:Greetings Broker,
Our Scout just passed yours during the course of the turn, but I don't think they can see each other now (it was the one by the Sheep if you have more than one out and about). We've just seen Tundra in the vicinity, so are we reaching the Southern edge of the map? We hail from the North - or at least relative to where our Scouts are now - where do you call home?

Typical intro blah here, so we'll see how forthcoming he is. I will mention to sunrise that we have met him, though it's not going to be easy for the two of them to meet.
For reference, Broker is playing Zara Yaqob (CRE/ORG) of the Holy Roman Empire - which means he does indeed start with Mysticism!

Quote:Wow there is somebody out there.
I was beginning to think I was isolated.
I only have one scout out the other got eaten by a Lion north of where this scout is which is actually where I was heading.
Which way is your capitol or are you way north I have due north fog busted quite a bit am I just missing you?
Mine is west but you will need to go south around the water to get around my borders already popped 3 ring. You need religion we could work out a deal for me to spread it to you.
I hope to be a peaceable member of society. With some trading
Have you met anyone else? Can you give me any directions?
We got a response from Broker of the HRE who appears to not have met anybody and gave us some nice map info. It sounds like some kind of fractal snaky map.
His scout being eaten by a lion raises some questions about always winning the first battle! Unless of course he won a previous battle. Maybe we should ask him about that.
Otherwise, his reply seems ok as I don't expect anybody to start by saying that "our heads would look... " We now have two offers for religions so we may be able to play that to our advantage hopefully! As in, sure you are free to spread your religion to us
I also wonder to the extent of his exploration up N (he hints at that). I'd like to discuss how much info to reveal to him at this point. I don't see much harm in telling him something similar about the location of our capital.
Regarding trading I have been thinking that there 3 mid-level techs we'd like to have sooner rather than later: alphabet (trading of course and also a philo lightbulb), monarchy (happiness) and mathematics (we have a lot of forests!). What does Dreylin think here?

Those all sound like good techs to me.
Warriors are back-tracking, so no news there. Scouting Bob continues South into the tundra.

Finally got around to sending a message to Broker:
Quote:Hey broker,
Yeah we're here, but there's a lot of space on the map, so it seems there's there's a big element of luck to finding someone else. We're about 20t North of the Sheep where we met, but it seems like there are several branches to East and West on the way there which we have yet to explore.
We met sunrise not long ago to our North, and he is facilitating a meeting with regoarrarr/Dantski nearby his capital in a couple of turns.
Congrats on scoring Buddhism btw.

It looks like the map maker intended us to research IW!
I was wondering if Scouting Bob should go in a direction opposite to Broker's capital given that he hasn't met anyone else...

I'm not sure I even know which way Broker's capital is; his description is kind-of confusing.

Quick exchange with Broker this evening:
Quote:20 turns no wonder it took so long to find sombody.
My scout is heading up north to finish what the other was doing before he got eaten. Is Sunrise due north also?
You have the great general next to you, I have been reading the demo game threads. Glad he isnt next to me.
Have you found anything of interest?
What type of cooperation are you planing for this game? Are you just making contacts or are you doing any preliminary negotiations?
Let me know
Quote:Broker,
Sorry, should have been clearer; I meant 20tiles rather than 20turns, so with care your Scout could be there in ~10turns. sunrise is North past us and then turn East - but our borders currently block the way past.
In general, we're still trying to get a handle on the map and locate other people; just trying to make contacts at the moment.

I had some exchanges in game both with Sunrise and Broker! It was a bit hard to keep up with both and didn't want quite yet to tell them I was talking to both... In retrospect, I realized that Dreylin told Broker about Sunrise so I could have told Sunrise about Broker will send him an email.
Highlights of the chats:
* Broker
His capital is about 12W from where we spotted his scout, but we need to go south first then west; sounds like a U-turn. He fought 4 animals already! His scout killed two bears before being eaten by a lion who ended up at .45 after. His warrior was now next to the lion, and there was also a bear nearby. Sounds like quite a menagerie. He said he's sending his scout up north to find us. He also estimated we are about 35 tiles apart.
* Sunrise
He said the rendez-vous is on T28 not T27, so we'll have to stay on that hill for 1 turn I guess. He also said he wanted to end the war soon which makes sense to build peace time. He asked if we met any other civs, but I had to leave. I realize that it may have seemed that I tried to evade his question so I'll send him an email to clarify just in case. He also said that he's been clearing the space between us without finding anything interesting yet.
In game I moved Scouting Bob W-SW on forested tundra hill and revealed furs. No animals spotted. I moved Primo towards the rendez-vous point. I will move Tyler to reveal coast south of cows/corn.
We need to talk a bit more tomorrow but with all the animals around I am having doubts again about a second scout. Maybe we can just build another warrior and send Tyler up N. It's quite forested anyway.
