Fenn's GNP is high. At least we improved ours by 20 GPT this turn by settling the island city for trade routes and by working some more lakes to avoid growth in capped cities.

[SPOILERS] Slaying Monsters

Ugh, Mardoc attacked out at my road pillager with his chariots. Also killed a worker.
I then attacked at his chariots and lost a 90% battle. If that had been the vulture attacking from the other direction, I would have lost a city due to that roll. Maybe it's just me but there should have been an odds limit after which you get a guaranteed win in combat. Civ6 fix this shit plz.
We reached Mardoc's capital. I figured this would be a good time to go for a high risk high reward maneuver.
Well, it didn't pay off. We won 6 battles but lost 14. Now is a good time to put this game on the back-burner and focus on PB29 which is starting soon. Link to my PB29 thread (SPOILERS)
Mardoc recaptured Triceratops, then I recaptured it back. Gonna lose an extra unit next turn because of a miss-click
![]() I blame my mouse. My old one keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, so I'm using this tiny backup mouse I had. We have 4 more cities than Fenn thanks to our backline filling efforts. Still got spots left and settlers on the way. If only we had a few better rolls in our initial campaign against Mardoc.. We definitely would have dominated this island.
We've rebuilt most of our stack so none of our core cities will be in any danger even if Fenn piles in. I noticed a few chariots from him so I have spears prepared, but his power graph isn't rising so I'm not too worried - yet. Eventually he will get better units and then it'll be trouble for us, even if he could more easily take over Mardoc's lands. I don't think he's got the experience to realize that, so he'll just come for us because we're evil or whatever.
A few turns ago I offered a city trade to Fenn, Velociraptor (I think?) for Mange. Both of us would get a city closer to our capital and neither is more established than the other. He declined the trade. Well, Mardoc will probably capture it soon temporarily. That's not the worst thing in the world, that city by itself was a drain to me in it's current state. Mardoc will have the same dilemma as earlier when we come back for it with catapults. He can't defend it without risking the capital. ![]() Mardoc got to taste some of his own medicine as his offense was stopped by our city defenders. He has one injured axe and one full HP axe. I will have a gravely injured vulture and a full HP vulture. What makes the situation even more interesting is that Fenn has a small stack (2 axes, 1 chariot, 2 archers) moving in. Losing the city to Fenn is probably worse than losing it to Mardoc as far as island dominance goes, but I kinda gave up on that already. Trying to play with a no cottages variant when all you're trying to do is improve your tech requires unwavering determination!
Mardoc attacked with the two axes and we killed them both. Got a double promo for that!
I stole Triceratops back with a chariot. I thought that I could also attack his axes with my other chariots after capturing the city, but I miscalculated. Capturing the city will still slow him down a bit. I can probably whip a spear or a vulture next turn in Velociraptor. Sitting at 5 whip unhappiness. I have a new plan. There is a big island that me, Fenn and Whosit have access to. I want to settle it first and lock it down. Could be huge.
There's a barb city on the island for us to capture.
![]() I'm sending over more units when the galley gets back. I'm also building a second galley for flexibility as I start settling the island. After losing our entire stack, we've managed to rebuild and once again claim the #1 place in Soldiers. Partly thanks to all the barracks I'm building in new cities for border pops :P Sent another peace offer to Mardoc, demanding Triceratops which he took back but left empty. No biggie if he doesn't accept. Mainly I'm just sick and tired of the war weariness. We met Borsche last turn and he accepted OB. That got us +1 gold in every city from trade routes. We're about 10 turns away from catapults.
We aren't really that far away from the pack in stats. The leaders are running away, but the rest we could compete with. It would be fun. But Mardoc is still an asshole. It is pretty annoying that despite me sending reasonable peace offers throughout the war he has not accepted any of them. I await the day I get catapults and can wipe him out. Actually no, I won't wipe him out, I will leave him one city so he has to log in every day and press enter. It's not like he has had anything to gain by staying in war with me all this time, so would it really be any different from what he's done if I annoy him just for the sake of it?
Mardoc accepted peace! Especially important since I've been sick this last week and can't play at nights when I'm too out of it. I turned on research, we will get Construction in 3 turns. Then we'll have 7 peace turns to build catapults. We also finally got research visibility on Fenn. He's researching Calendar so nothing to worry about on that front.
