[Mjmd #52 no players] Working on the Homestead

Sorry I haven't been following along as closely. I think it was a mistake to go after Charriu this aggressively, and that 6th city site means that you've committed to continue fighting, and Construction is going to be ages away at this tech rate. In hindsight, horses may have been a bit far away but not hooking them for this long has hurt. The barbarian Axes are wrecking the game for you right now, made worse without fogbusters to see them coming from far away enough to position your own Axes on defensive terrain to intercept them before they can pillage.

Also, your mentality about choosing to stay at war because it hurts Charriu would be more appropriate in a duel than a FFA. Going back to your earlier analogy with MTG hate-drafting, it's like that but worse, since Charriu can see that you're cutting his cards, so to speak, and might as well hold a grudge over it.

I mean your 100% right. Ya my horse being the way way other direction over another foodless expanse has hurt.... I'm really wondering why I basically had to go a million miles for my 4th city when I know Charriu didn't nono . I actually have good vision for incoming thanks to culture, just not the units thanks to the war.

I did ask where else to settle #6! Thing is if I don't settle he has access to the very juicy happiness resources down south of it.

I mean when someone comes and razes a city logic isn't always front to mind. My many mistakes along with his decision to attack has knocked both of us way down. We were both at the top before this war. Early wars aren't good in civ (unless you knock out fast). My chances of winning this game were never very high, but this war has sunk them. Besides if you start zealously prosecuting wars when people attack you early you get a reputation (hi SD!) and then people don't want to attack you in future games crazyeye

Well one way or another you're still going to need horses at some point. I'd suggest the plains hill 3W of the capital to share fish and then claim the new fish and horse with the Monument culture.

I was going to ask about the horse spot. I had originally thought first ring sheep, but with stonehenge I would like to go get that fish. I'm thinking north of the horse. Capital pretty much has given up the cow and will for a while so don't want to give away its fish atm. BTW AT saw my workboat and I think he thought I was settling that spot instead of using my oops workboat for barb busting. That is um an interesting spot. Maybe he has an access of workers, is going for calendar, and has ton's of workers. Or he has no food anywhere else?

Demos's actually aren't bad.... considering a whole city's improvements were pillaged by barbs (multiple times) and multiple cities have tons of whip unhappy.

I suggested the plains hill spot because it requires the least extension in terms of military and maintenance, when you have 3 barb Axes in your borders. yikes Also that way your Workers wouldn't need to head there right away and can finish rebuilding the improvements by French Toast, at which point the capital can work the cows again and give away the fish.

4; you might have missed the one NW of the gold because if the icon...... I should have kept a barb kill count. It's a lot. I lost my scout fyi. Was trying to barb bust to the south, but barb warrior got him.

It will be a while until 7th. Workers first. Probably like 8-9 turns until settler. I can send a couple axes with the settler by that time hopefully.

Charriu sent me another peace offer. I declined. Checked the pig and yep 1 worker guarded by an axe and a chariot. Is it an elaborate trap? I'll find out!

1st axe loss, 2nd and 3rd axe won!!!!! So I have 2 axes and a spear on the pig with the worker. He has an archer and spear in the city. I have another axe over the river. If he has literally all 3 remaining chariots I know of within range it could be bad. I'm hoping 1 or 2 are off dealing with barbs.

I did extend a peace offer back. I really just wanted some kind of victory I think. Captured worker is something; shrug.

That's a good hammer exchange if you can keep the FW, and hopefully Charriu is willing to take peace now. That border is going to be a long-term source of tension, but hopefully 10t of peace is enough to clear out the barbs and start doing some fogbusting to the south and west.

Not only did he have the 3 chariots, BUT he had an axe hiding behind as well. His axe lost leaving mine with 3 strength. Instead of charging the chariots in, he offered peace. I offered back this turn and got the heck out of there. I'm betting if he could have eventually gotten odds on the axe with his spear he would have tried.

BTW he finally made a mistake. His culture expanded this turn (I forgot he would get culture from it even though he isn't in the religion). If he had waited 1 more turn I wouldn't have been able to use the roads to get to do that little expedition.

Hinduism spread down in my new city of Cornbread. he has been furiously working the hill tile there probably trying to get his own monument. So that city I should have good culture on. New Salmon is currently building a library with intent to whip it. Do you think thats better than just building a granary then library? I should get the stone in 7ish turns for added production as a note.

Started libraries in Maple Syrup and French Toast as well.

Sorry for lack of pictures. My best time for reporting is at night and with how fast the turns are rolling I end up playing a lot of turns during the day.

Anyways an empire at peace and as of next turn barb free!

1st off I forgot Chairriu can just build walls for culture, so my cities are going to have a disadvantage. I don't expect to take any tiles off of ExploringFauns in the north. Thinking about switching Salmon to a granary (and i just went back in and switched it)

Plans:
Worker from wheat and one roading will converge on gold to re-improve.

2 pop whip library in French toast in 3 turns.
Maple Syrup will start a worker in 2 turns to also be 2 pop whipped. I should be able to finish math in 2 turns after french toast library finishes. Will have to see if I can wait for Maple Syrup library to finish (depends on if I need a chop most likely for the granary down in Cornbread). Tech plan is to then > currency > archery > horseback riding
Pancakes after worker will grow to size 4 and then slow build a settler. With how long it will take me to road to the horse site (sigh) this is fine. It will then grow to size 5 and probably 2 pop whip another settler.
Pork Chops can actually grow again once I get gold hooked up! Needs some more improved tiles (as does every city I've spent sooo many turns roading over this mess of desert and floodplains)

Chairriu is going to be basically impossible to attack on any hill city. I probably won't even try. Better to just rex at this point. I'm sending an axe down south to scout atm to see if there is sea food down there and if so where. There is a chance I still try to settle for the grassland sheep down there to steal from him. I probably won't start any direct war, but certainly we will have a culture war down south. Also, obviously he might try to attack me eventually.

Other news is that Pindicator built Oracle. He has been doing very well considering he has been at war with Gira since forever now.
