Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] Amelia, Tempest of the Seas

Strange thing with the lizardmen running away- perhaps they saw another player's scout.

It looks like a nice eventual city spot would be 1E of the barrow at your capital. Landlocked and no food bonuses, but it would easily pay for itself with two cotton plantations, five river grassland cottages, and perhaps two tundra farms once you have Sun I to remove the ice.

Nope. I already have a city in mind to take the 2 cotton Plantations (And it's next to a lake which can be Work Boated).

Frankly for the Lanun, land-locked cities are horrible unless there are some really nice resources there to justify it.

Water tiles are awesome as the Lanun, but keep in mind that they aren't the be-all and end-all of city locations. A river grassland town can be boosted to I think either 6 or 7 commerce with financial and the right techs. I would certainly prioritize nice coastal locations, but don't refuse to settle landlocked cities just because they won't have coves. Land tiles aren't actually any worse with the Lanun, they just don't always compare well to some of the crazy cities you can set up on the coast.

So let's see the start of the turn:

Woah!

One short smack later, and my Warrior has 11 XP.

Work Boat finishes, and resume Settler. 9 Turns, and extra 6 commerce due to Pearls.

I've been thinking of my future tech plans, and i think the best way to do it now is to Sandbag Overlords until i found my second city, at which i finish the research so that my second city will expand borders quicker for cultural defense. (And it's in the middle of all my planned cities so the border expansions will be awesome.)

But first... that Barrow in the middle. Something in my head is telling me that it should... burn...

Right after my warrior heals up =)

Barbarians, can you please... make up... your freaking mind?

I now have a lizard + Skele pair on my border.

The Lizardman ended at the cotton SW of my Warrior on the right. The Skele moved up.

I said fuck it. My Str 4 warrior takes 1 turn to heal up, so it'll be at full health. He has a promotion to compensate for fortify. He has 10% fortify. There is a nice button to press.

I pressed the button.

Who's the boss now, Lucian? jive

My 3 Promotion Warrior is going to be on defense. However, the wonderful GC he has will be split. My Bronze Warrior will get that promotion (str 5!!!), and then he'll ... hmm...

Walk halfway around the world to find the vampires and show them that Bronze > Vamps?

Find Mist and slaughter Lucian so that he cries?

Find Mist, find vampires, and slaughter the Vamps in a 2-man dogpile?

Show the Elves that Archers aren't everything?

Use that warrior to find Letum Frigus and eliminate it so that (oh wait no Illians)

Find the mythical Yggdrasil/ Remnants / Dragon Bones site?

Show the Priest of Winters who's boss (Oh wait no Illians again)

Well, we have to take care of a barb problem first, so maybe that will come later!

Edit: Crap, i just realized i made a tactical error. Should have split the GC immediately and sent him over. Now my warrior will lose out that 1 XP on killing the skeleton.

On second thought, there is another burrow down there... I might as well pop it jive and maybe i can get Iron WEAPONS

Or Rod of Wind (+1 for air affinity jive)

Maybe i can get Rod and Orthus spawns next to me... Str 7 Warrior....

I think you're getting a little carried away. tongue

Kind of risky move popping that barrow... if it had unleashed azers you'd likely be dead. Turned out okay this time, but I'd recommend waiting until you can pull off the Dave Lair Exploration Maneuver Activity (ie: surround them :P) for future lairs.

A strength 5 warrior is neat, but not much better than a basic strength 3 warrior who has a few combat promos. Maybe you should just level up vs. skeletons for a while. Even unleashing a couple scorpions from a lair will spell the end of your warrior and waste the great commander.

Well, here's my reasons for opening them.

1. It's a burrow. I don't want to waste a Warrior sitting on it for ages. And if he gets stabbed by a Lizard i'm in trouble.

2. I need that Warrior to protect my Settler.

3. Nice Button.

Now, to be serious, if i'm going to be delayed by a freaking Burrow, might as well open it. If Azers pop up, well, it wasn't my fate to win this game =)

Much better to do everything that gives me a better chance of winning rather then sitting with a handicap for ages.
