Turn Discussion Thread

We haven't met Pirates. Neither neighboring team can see our map and know we avoided contact. Even if their scout discovers ours next turn, they won't know how close we did or didn't come to their borders.

So I don't see where this penalty would come from. Sure, we'll have to lie by omission all game, but as long as our story is consistent, nobody will know until the post-game thread review.

I don't think the scout deception (approaching from the SE) is a valid move though. It would only work if we lied about our location, or just refused to offer the information. And we'd be caught in the lie very shortly, which WOULD be damaging.

I vote for meeting them.

If anyone else wants to vote, you should do so ASAP since this decision needs to be made soon. If I have anyone's vote incorrectly, or if you want to change it, post it here.

That now brings the vote to a tie, and it's our turn to play so we need to make the decision asap. I suppose that also makes Lord Parkin the tie-breaker, since he is the official captain? So I'm guessing we should go ahead and meet the Pirates? Although I did vote for not meeting them for a lot of the reasons Mortius and others brought up, I'm not completely against it.

I thought the captaincy was only for recruiting players to the game, and a couple other administrative functions (forum approval and what-not). While I do trust John, I don't think he should be given tie-breaking power solely due to that.

In the event of a tie, and given turn-playing urgency, I think the logical step is to make the reversible move. In this case, it would be to not meet the pirates. If there is a change in the voting, we can go meet them next turn. If we meet them, we can not un-meet them. I think we should adopt this philosophy for all future ties.

Yeah, this does also kinda make a lot of sense too. And yeah, you're pretty much right...being captain was mainly for the recruitment and initial organization part.

Maybe the smarter move right now is to do the one that can't be un-done as you say. We can do the SE-SE move, then decide if we want to go back NE after that and take the wider eastern route for returning to the SE of our capital for the rest of that exploration plan.

I'd say going 2SE and then change our minds would be the worst of both worlds. It would mean a much larger investment in scouting turns, and delaying contact with even poorer reason than earlier.

Giving LP tie-breaking power is fine by me, and would have been no matter what he voted. We all trust him enough to want to be on his team - that he chooses to be a less involved team captain is his choice and prerogative.

Not all team members have already voted.

Well, they only have today to vote. So everyone that hasn't voted that is on the team....please vote ASAP!! smile
How many people do we have on the team who haven't voted? We don't even have an accurate team list that I know of.

I’ve just realized that I was an idiot.

I spent hours on the simulation, planning the best moves, trying to find even the smallest advantage, and it was just enough to vote … yes or no, doesn’t matter, … without reasoning, ... even without the knowledge about the current situation, just saying yes or no.
It’s like spending few seconds of your time instead of few hours, for exactly the same result.

Yeap, I was a sucker.

If you're thinking on the Stonehenge sim, I admitted defeat on it two days ago, after spending too many hours trying to whip, grow, or otherwise gain one more turn's worth of production.
