New (Maybe Greens) PBEM?

Yep, probably the best time for me is from about 17:00 to 21:00 GMT

10-15 cities sounds good to me.

Music, you're probably good to go if you want to claim the unclaimed fifth spot here, just pick leader/civ and let us know your play window.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

im a bit nervous of playing one of these from the start. even in the greens games where i read slowcheetah and catwalk, i think its clear im not up to that standard. gaspar said to me that there are probably four tiers with 'bad' being below green. i think maybe this would be too intense? my aim wouldnt be to win the game, but to just learn as much as i can and not come last. considering we havent started yet, that doesnt seem such a noble goal?

That's a fine goal. I mean, fundamentally, the goal is whatever you want it to be, without messing with other people's fun. It's up to you mate, and fundamentally just four players is fine too.

well ... for what it's worth, i believe the best way to learn (anything) is to play against someone somewhat better than you, and doing/when done get feedback on what people believe you did good, what you didn't do quite as well and suggestions as for what to change

i will try my best and i apologise now for any silly mistakes.

i have found the settings:

Standard diplo? Open thread, PB7-style.
One only of Fin/Exp/Inca/India.
Snake pick leaders/civ.
Difficulty/wrap? Monarch /toroidal (cylindrical okay)
Boat importance? Not vital, but navy build-able. (Lake-ish)
Mirroring? Capitals close, local areas balanced but not identical.

No barbs!
No huts!
No Spies!
No Nukes!
No SoZ!
No WE! (Khmer excepted?)
No events!!!
No religious victory, and no resolutions, but AP is fine for the hammers.

this is all fine for me, i just need to know when i pick my leader or civ. thanks

TheMusicMan, you needn't worry about ruining the game for anyone else if you fall a bit below the standard. I suggest trying to recruit a dedicated lurker who will only read your thread and thus be allowed to give you advice. I saw you have a medical condition that prevents you from typing much, just make sure to put up a lot of useful screenshots instead. I suggest putting them in [spoiler] tags so the thread doesn't become way too long to scroll down.

When I started my first game here, I asked a bunch of basic questions on the general civ forum and asked for some basic pointers. Feel free to do the same, you'll easily get a bunch of competent advice. Or see if you can dig up my thread with questions, you might find it if you look (on my profile) through the threads I've started.

Your pick is up now, and you get to make a double pick. Picks so far: Huyna Capac, Willem of Oranje, India and Isabella. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions, and if you need a little more time to think about your pick it can probably wait until tomorrow afternoon or so.

i think this will be great fun. thanks all, this site is very welcoming and everything i hoped it would be. i was scared to register and start posting for a little while but that was stupid. i encourage any others who do the same to join in, its much more fun!
