I just wonder what CivPlayers is getting out of the deal. They fund Apolyton... then what? Apolyton doesn't have the production base to seriously threaten us. But if they could get rifling to CivPlayers then combined they could be dangerous.

Well I assume Apolyton will now pay back the money to CivPlayers, and perhaps more than that.

Do you really think Maces, a few Muskets and Catapults defend against rifles, not to mention that the other teams will benefit greatly by forcing us to build a whole new military, rather than allowing us to build courthouses, markets, universities, and banks? It's pretty clear that Civplayers has 0 chance to win, if we aren't slowed down. If we are slowed down, they have >0 chance. Therefore it is a good move for them to fund Apolyton research, and probably to attack us themselves. It will not be easy for us to defend three fronts at once, if there is a true dogpile a-brewin'. Perhaps pb8 has made me cocky.
If they stack up the rifles we can kill them with cats, that's my thinking

Not to mention, time was of the essence in that particular fight. How many catapults do you think we'd need to kill a stack of 10 rifles? 15 Rifles? 20 Rifles? Also remember the outrage in this game whenever Sullla lost a single unit. Imagine the level of carnage here. "There is no wealth like knowledge. No poverty like ignorance."
Well i killed 9 rifles with 12 barrage cats and a motley of maces and knights in pb8. I would guess you would want 1.25 to 1.5 cats per rifle for large scale. And then enough units ro clean up.
You're right that people should expect a bloody war. Which probably means we need a round of cats and drafting as soon as we hit gunpowder. Maybe even draft right away

We're getting Gunpowder in two turns. Don't panic. Apolyton doesn't even have Rifling yet.

Now if CFC joins in then feel free to panic away, but they are 1) in a hot war 2) 15T away from even being able to declare war 3) considering a NAP extension with us largely due to said hot war.
