It has some sort of team mechanic, can't remember if it works like GPPs. But I do know that the Imperialistic bonus (towards generals) applies to everyone on the team, not just the civ that has it.

Are you sure about this? I remember repeatedly that the players this game treated the IMP bonus as for that civ only, and no other bonus acts like this.
