Given the food surplus that's there already, I'm not DYING to get a plantation onto it since that requires diverting to Calendar right away. I guess it's not hard to do the math here, right? Ignoring the health value, the plantation sacrifices some commerce to get a few extra food. Presumably we use that food to support an extra population which means another coast or, more likely down the line, an extra specialists. Is that eventual, theoretical specialist better than a banana village? Probably?

I haven't done the math on this but I'm reminded of something that Seven said somewhere about the higher value of income gold now than down the road. I think it was in relation to working a coast or some other moderate coin tile instead of investing in a brand new cottage. Don't quote me on that, but I think that even if the specialist would result in more commerce eventually, is it worth losing the more commerce now?

I actually don't think my comparison was a very good one. The extra growth matters here and has an impact. Let's say the banana plantation instead of a banana village lets us hit the next X sizes 2-3T earlier. That's 2-3T extra of working 2/0/3 coast, which in those windows more or less makes up for the commerce loss in paving over the village. Or alternatively, it affords us the flexibility to continue growing quickly while picking up both workshops (the one that's there and the one we'll add to the 1 tile island), so we're gaining a hammer bonus in a hammer-starved city. So basically, it's not just about the end result, it's about the whole process (or else we just stick with village and pave it at the very end). I dunno, I'm not great at measuring these things, but I imagine it comes out pretty close in the end.

I think the main issue is that in the short-term, we want to unlock Caravels pretty quickly, and I don't think we can afford to slot in Calendar until after we can build Caravels. So that may just decide it for us.

Noticed it was us & Bigger to play, so I did the turn.

Merohoc lost another city to plako; i think he's on the way out, unless he can find a lightly defended island of his own.

On the home front, I know we were talking about have JJ use it's overflow for an archer, but I queued up another missionary instead. We'll need them, too.

And then, I start to wonder if we're antagonizing the wrong neighbor:

There's a pair of galleys on the circle, so I moved ours away so he couldn't do any pre-emptive strikes.
Xenu is really pressing buttons by settling up on us so hard. Then again, it's not like he can actually keep it once we start pumping a navy out. (We should start doing this in any crap cities.)

I logged in and looked around. Swapped Taco Bell to an Ikhanda as discussed, and I also whipped the Forge at Starbucks now that we have Hinduism in there. All else looks good.

Popped in and looked at the turn. Sid's is very quickly going to be out of tiles now that is has a 12F surplus (yay overdue lighthouse), so I shuffled 2 workers down to start a cottage. Other than that I just looked around. Several things could be whipped if we want. Jamba Juice should probably whip its Lighthouse.

Also, JJ's (east coast) just finished its missionary - should we be squeaking an archer out of there to go with the Impi for our horse plant? Just not sure that the Library is real crucial there, especially on a city with limited commerce right now.

That's about it. I can finish the turn later if you want.

I'm fine with swapping Jimmy John's to a unit, especially if we'll need it for the horse city out east.

Definitely whip Jamba Juice's lighthouse.

Should we have Sid's start working specialists again? Maybe not a priest; we don't need another one of those. But engineers and (eventually) scientists are good

Whipped Jamba, ended turn. I then re-paused it for everyone else and then, for whatever stupid reason, clicked on a trade window while the game was paused. Um, that means it's time for me to sleep. lol
