Don't all of the first-to bonuses show up in the event log? I'm not confident that the tooltips in F6 reflect their claim status.

The free Great People show up on the event log, but there's nothing that set them apart from regular GPs (I wanted a fail proof method, that's why I asked). On this particular case, there's a GArtist born in the log, but I'm not sure if it's the music one or not. It probably is, though, and the point is moot. The Great Library was built a long time ago, and someone probably nabbed it laready (Dreylin, most likely). F6 tooltip definitely doesn't work. All the great people show up in the log, but you don't see why they appeared. If there is no Artist you can be sure Music hasn't fallen, but if there is an Artist then perhaps someone got a low odds MoM or National Epic artist, but more likely it was Music... You need Paper for tech visibility Ichabod. Until then you might figure the number of folks you've met that have a tech available for you to research with GNP scrying, but with five unmet that won't work...
Completed: RB Demogame - Gillette, PBEM46, Pitboss 13, Pitboss 18, Pitboss 30, Pitboss 31, Pitboss 38, Pitboss 42, Pitboss 46, Pitboss 52 (Pindicator's game), Pitboss 57
In progress: Rimworld
Ah, gotcha, then here's a more comprehensive explanation. The F6 tooltip does not update with game events. However, the tech icons at the top of the main interface do. For example:
![]() When no one has discovered Music, hovering over the icon displays "First to Discover Receives a Great Artist." ![]() When another player has discovered Music, hovering over the icon no longer displays that line. ![]() However, even after someone else has discovered Music, the F6 tooltip still claims "First to Discover Receives a Great Artist." This one was easy. Didn't even attack with the trebs, just bombarded. Attacked mostly with xbows and axes and a Phract to get 10 XP. No units lost. I put the trebs and the full health phracts in the galleys, to bring them to where the action is, on the mainland. They'll help taking Orpheus, a few turns from now. Jowy got feudalism, so now we have longbows. On hills, they are pretty annoying, and losing some units here was a certainty. I debated about the best way to go about it, I think I went treb -> phract -> trebs -> attack. Not really sure. In the end, I lost 1 treb and 2 phracts, doubling my number of units lost in this war (3 trebs, 2 phracts and a xbow). I won a lot of 70% battles, which was nice. I attacked this turn, without taking out the defenses, because Jowy didn't promote his spears and I feared he'd do so on the following turn. Combat 1 spears will increase the ratio of dead phracts by a lot. I thought the 2 trebs I lost at 95% odds while taking Titania would be missed here, but it went pretty well, overall. It's nice that I have a Medic 3 to quickly heal everyone. Yay, free academy! I moved the remaining phracts on the direction where I guessed Jowy's city would be and I hit the jackpot. Interesting that a LB on flatland gives me ~75% odds with a C1 phract. It makes a very big difference for LBs to be on hills... Lost another phract, in a 75% battle against a spear. That brings my total units lost to 7. Next targets: I'll have 10XP phracts, trebs and the city is on flatland. Barring some bad luck, I'll probably lose 1 unit at most here. Another annoying hill city. It won't have many units, so, again, I don't think I'll lose much taking it. ---- Is there some kind of change in WW in this mod? I lost 7 units so far, and my Capital is up to 4 unhappy faces... That's really crazy. Perhaps I'm missing something about how WW works... Jowy is down to 5 cities, and I hope to take him out soon. I have galleys getting in position to ferry units to the last of his island cities (after they take Daisoujou), while my main army goes for Orpheus, Juno and the last one, near AT. After that, who knows. This Jowy conquest revealed to me that conquering is very, very difficult in this map. If Jowy was a little more engaged, he could have really caused me loads of troubles. I don't think I could have taken much other than his Capital and the cities closer to me. The fact that he didn't have units better than spears until very late into the war was also a huge amount of luck, that I didn't really plan around; I just went with my eyes closed and hoping for the best. Or maybe I'm underestimating my invasion force... I don't really have the experience to judge that. Long term strategy... I don't really know. I'm afraid Gawdzak and his just started GAge will go for Lib -> Nationalism -> Taj Mahal. I'd like to get Paper, just to see where everyone stands and base my strategy around that (like, can I attack Mr. Cairo after finishing Jowy?). But perhaps I have to race for one of the freebies, just to deny all of them to Gawdzak... And then there's AT, who is also going there, perhaps. Gawdzak got into Caste, that screams to me as GScientists for Lib. If that's the case, I should go for the Taj Mahal. But I don't really have a way to chop it in few turns or something crazy like that. And knowing Gawdzak, he'll probably one turn it in some way. Perhaps Paper is the right play, because I can also use it to go for Lib or Economics. Economics is a good target, because I already have Banking, so I'm probably ahead of the pack in that regard. I don't know. I'll think more about it some other time.
No changes to WW AFAIK, but do keep in mind that killing *his* units and taking *his* cities will also increase your own WW!! (his too, if that makes you feel any better)
nice job with the war so far! game's lookin' pretty promising (July 19th, 2016, 03:32)GermanJoey Wrote: No changes to WW AFAIK, but do keep in mind that killing *his* units and taking *his* cities will also increase your own WW!! (his too, if that makes you feel any better) Ah, that make sense. Thanks. I thought it only had to do with your units and that they needed to be killed in someone else's borders. Anyway, I'm handling the unhappy pretty nicely now. I recently acquired silks and wine and, after gifting all my spare resources, including iron, to Adrien, I asked and he gave me his fur for free. Next turn I'll give him my spare wines too. The Capital will soon have a market, which will end any further problems, giving +3 happy. Down the road (after the war, I mean), my problems are solved too, I think. I'll get silver and spices from Jowy's land, perhaps even sugar. Right now, Jowy's land is not that profitable, because most food resources are on the second ring of culture, amusingly enough. I'm building Libraries instead of monuments, because they actually break even in most cases in terms of time for the border pop (the 5 extra turns from monuments compensate for the longer build time of the libraries). Despite that, I'm already the number one in crop yield, which makes me pretty happy. After Jowy's cities, I still have some island cities to plant and some fillers here and there, I think I'll pass 30 cities. Jowy withdrew most of his units from this city, leaving a longbow, spear and 2 axes. My 10 XP phracts had +90% on the defenders, so I captured it without losing any units and opened the roads to move the trebs faster. The easier battles I used to get 2 more phracts to 10 XP. This is proof that conquering in this map is very hard. Once again, Jowy has a city full of units. The map is just very production heavy, and very defensive. This city will likely be the final battle, and the number of longbows worry me a bit. I have 4 full health trebs, but I'll wait some turns to get 2 more trebs. I'll also take the needed time to bombard the culture and all that. Now, I'm just trying to cut the losses, not going for speed. Next turn, another city will fall. Another happy resource, which is pretty nice. I also declared on Gawdzak this turn. The reasons are the following: *That city is too close to my lands and I don't want him to have a forward port. He kept the city empty for a long time (all the time it took for me to build a galley and move it down here), so he is probably not ready to recapture it (and the city is probably far away from his land). *Gawdzak is in a GA, but he's still in Barbarism. I take from that that he doesn't have Feudalism, nor Civil Service. I'm not sure what units he's using to conquer BGN, HAs and swords? Whatever they are, I'm not afraid of them. *Gawdzak will never be my friend in this game. He refused open borders and that's the only thing we could achieve by a good relationship. He's competitive and we are the 2 players with the best score, so that naturally places us in a conflict situation. Might as well make it official in our terms, taking advantage of it. Nice! WB in place, granary already built. A pity I couldn't reach that worker, I bet Gawdzak will delete it next turn. By the way, haven't seen any worker from Jowy too, so I guess he also deleted them. I could use some captured workers, but alas. In an interesting note, that Gawdzak city gets me to 30 cities, while I only settled 15 cities. So, half of my cities were captured from other players (12 from Jowy, 1 from Molach, 1 from barbs, 1 from Gawdzak). Are you satisfied, blood god? ![]() Adrien is a likely next target for me. Right now, I'm gifting him a lot of resources, to make his life easier against Mr. Cairo. But if I can, I'll take the opportunity to nab his last cities. Acting like a true psychopath, I am. ----- I debated a lot about where to go with my research and I chose Paper, in the end. Winning the Taj Mahal race would be the best thing for me, but I'm not confident about it. I know I can reach Nationalism faster than anyone else (at least I think I can), but I don't think I can build it fast enough. Besides, a GEng was born in a far away land, and I bet that's Gawdzak (he's IND and he has the HG and the Pyramids). Getting to Nationalism and losing the Taj would be a lot of wasted beakers, for only Mercantilism in return (which perhaps is worth it...). Anyway, I'm confident I can be the first to Liberalism. And I'm certain I can be the first to Economics, if all else fail. So going that route is safer. Yeah, a MoM boosted Taj would be the real deal, but I think I'm ahead and that means I only need to break even, I don't need to risk it for a larger reward. Anyway, paper is on the way to Liberalism and it'll help me to assess where I and everyone else stand on the tech tree. Using that, I'll think about this issue some more and try to decide where to go from here. |
