I want to go for 2W of the corn. That gives the plains hill hammer and reaches the cow. Yes, it will need a monument. But the PH and cow add up to an extra 4 hammers which pays back for the monument pretty quickly and then keeps snowballing.

Biggest reason to do that is that there's no other good site to use the cow. The fish and cow can't be reached together, and the rest of the area around the cow is uninteresting blank grassland and jungle. But this spot uses it perfectly.

I wasn't going to say anything because I thought it was fairly obvious that Sullla was absolutely correct here, but I don't want to leave him on an island.

T-Hawk just because the land is "uninteresting" doesn't mean it can't be useful in the future. And please there's a banana just north of the cow. Yes we can't use it right away but eventually a city north of the cows will have the cows+banana+fin cottages all over the grassland a perfectly good use of the cow giving such a city a nice production boost. To say that we "waste" the cow by settling next to the gold is misleading.

Its not an issue of how fast we can build the monument. It's an issue of how long before we tech myst and by settling 2 W you force us to tech myst earlier and delay other techs that could be more useful earlier especially if we do plan to go after the GLH.

Additionally you have to wait 10 turns for the monument culture after its built. Additionally you have to wait a few turns as the gold gets mined after the culture runs over it. That is a SERIOUS LOSS!!! I cannot stress enough how important getting the gold up immediately is. It is imperative that we settle next to it.

Just want to throw the idea of
1E of the Gold
in and see what people think.
That still leaves space for a cow/deer filler city.
And it would give us also the two river side spices.

Interesting but ultimately inefficient given that:
A) The settler has to move farther
B) We have to road farther for both trade routes and movement
C) Wastes worker turns moving back and forth
D) Harder to defend
E) More maintenance.

Yes, we want to settle next to the corn/gold. I did a new possible micro plan, up to T40, based on Kyan's.

Settling the new city will be expensive - I got 3gpt in maintenance (civic+cities). We won't be finished with all the required worker techs (Mining, BW, AH) until T46 or so - and that is with the gold online from T43! We need every commerce we can eke out, as soon as we can get them.

We can get the cow with a city 1SW or S of the banana or 1NW or N of the cow (depending on where we settle the gold city). Plains cow+banana is a perfectly nice city, especially with all the grassland around. Not much production, but a superb long-term commerce city.

I'd like to see some other proposed plans for how to develop the gold city, especially in getting the gold online a turn or two earlier, but sharing the deer might make the worker turn problem worse, not easier.

You share the deer as soon as the city is planted in order to get the city to size 2 asap. Mine the gold while growing to 2 then farm corn. When city grows 2 work gold and once the corn is done work corn and gold to grow to size 3. The worker you send with the settler goes straight onto the gold. Sharing the deer is the key to getting the city able to work gold asap.

Right, I just took the monument as a given. Forgot that we don't have Mysticism nor plans for it soon. Ok, scrap my suggestion and settle next to the gold.

Given the strength of this site, are we going to follow a "quick settler" plan from the capital, as opposed to growing to size 5 before settler? kjn's simulation doesn't explicitly say what size the settler happens at.

@ T-Hawk Size 3. I started it T24, just as the city has grown to size 3. The first worker was built once the city had grown to size 2.

And we need a better way to share and document micro-plans.

If you are going to swap to the Corn after it's farmed it seems intuitively obvious to me that you should farm the Corn before mining the Gold. However I think we should strongly consider staying on the Deer/Gold and slowly growing to size 3 before adding the Corn, given the repeated stressing of the importance of commerce at this stage.

IIRC fastest settler is by starting it at size 1, grow to two on a warrior build once the corn's been farmed, finish settler at size 2. Worker can start preparing second city after camping the deer.

Our warrior should probably scout the area near the gold and not circle around the capital. We need it soon for settler protection.
I have to run.
