For the record, OO is banned because, as Sareln pointed out to me in a chat, it would allow people to threaten capitals too easily, too early. Not what should be going on in a builder's game. Also I was worried that with the long coastlines it would be the "one right religion", and I didn't want to over-centralize the game.

I'm never making another map again. I didn't volunteer to make a map for this game, I was recruited. And now the XVb players want to either edit my map ( ) or replace it altogether ( ).
I spent hours making this thing. It passed the Map Thread with no complaints. Nobody threw a hissy fit in III, where the Lanun had just as much if not more coast. The players are less than a dozen turn into this game, and already they think it's terminally unbalanced. It's a fucking pangea, guys. It has a coast. They all do. Yes, the Lanun get a tech boost at the start if they have coast and beeline fishing. That is how they have always worked. It's balanced out by them having no land-combat advantages and investing in tiles which reach a mild maximum payoff early. Do I really have to explain this shit? And oh no, players have to research Bronze Working (or Elementalism), like it's some sort of unbearable fucking burden in FFH, as opposed to something you should do relatively early on in 90% of games. Plus I made sure that there's a trade-off involved for the coastal Lanun, with there being few viable land tiles along the mountainous coast, meaning that any cities they found will soon taper off in utility as opposed to someone who invests in the incredibly rich interior. But no, Bob must have just been banging away blindly at his keyboard when he made this disaster (but we still respect his Adventures! ). Although maybe I'm being too harsh on the players; after all, how could they know what the terrain is like when they're LESS THAN A DOZEN TURNS INTO THE GAME? Absurd. Ridiculous.
Well, to hell with this.

Try not to let it get you down, Bob. Map whining seems to be a traditional part of most of these games.

I came in here looking for this post and you did not disappoint.
I can't say I disagree with your reaction.

Oh, not cool. I hope these whiners aren't getting to Black Dynamite as well!
I have to run.

Yeah...sorry about that . FWIW, I liked what I had seen so far and wanted to keep going.

Oy, it was worse than I thought.
Bob, would you be willing to make a map if you got a pledge beforehand from the players? Something along the lines of:

I think that's the primary difference between people's reactions to your adventures and your PBEM maps. People aren't expecting change in PBEMs so they get thrown by things that are on balance really not that bad. While in Adventures, you know going into it that it will be different than a normal game, so when you find surprises, you react and move on.

I don't get some of the picks . Its not like they took bad leaders for a normal game, but with a builder setup how do you not take FIN? Mackoti clearly has the best pick, then a small drop-off to Thoth, followed by a cliff to everyone else.

I can see Keelyn as a choice too. A builder game implies she'll have time to get her ultimate trick up and running before real conflicts emerge.
Bannor and Elohim are very meh.

Yeah the Elohim belong in a game where Sanctuary and/or tolerant will be relevant.
