ok, well, I guess there's no point in holding it any longer. Maya is a decent, but not great, civ, so might as well look for one with better start techs.
I will HOLD Gilgamesh and RE-ROLL Maya, please.

well, that's better.
Agri/wheel is a strong combo. Hamman isn't a great UB, but I'll build it in some of my cities for the happy (and for the health later), so it's ok. Protective is a nice boost to jannisaries.
I shall keep Ottomans.

ok - so, planning for the game.
My start
Presuming my scout move to the hill W of the deer doesn't reveal an awesome start and I SIP, my plan is to tech fishing first. This will allow me to use the whale and get another commerce in the early game, which will cut the time for later techs by a turn or so, plus give me a 3 food tile to grow on until I get the wheat improved. Obviously, the wheat will be the first tile improved, and then I'll probably lay down some roads until I get BW, to make travel faster.
After fishing, I can either go pottery and start the granary or mining->BW. My current thought is pottery, cause cheap granaries are nice and I can build it, chop the first settler and 1 pop whip it eventually, but I'll see.
After those three, hunting->AH to finish off the worker techs. Frankly, that's all in the future.
Builds will likely go worker->warrior->granary->settler->workboat (maybe). We'll see.
Long-term
It seems like I should basically expand until I can't expand, then tech my way to gunpowder and kill one or more of my opponents with janissaries. Probably go to gunpowder up the education line with a stop at feudalism along the way ensure safety. I can't ignore sailing, IW, Math or Currency, but can probably ignore the aesthetics line and guilds/machinery/engineering for awhile.
Well, that's the plan (as it is) for now.
Edit:
Also, don't get attacked early and have to whip units. it messes up your game... also also... don't start next to molach.

Because I can't really do anything, I figured I'd explore the difference between the Education line vs the Guilds line to get to Gunpowder.
Assuming that I want Metal Casting and Code of Laws no matter what, and that I want Feudalism in either case (since it would be the height of silliness to be protective and get run over by knights and not have long bows). then the difference between the lines is Civil Service, Paper and Education on the one line and Machinery and Guilds in the other.
Including Gunpowder, that's 2650 beakers for the guilds line and 4400 for the education line, which seems to me to be an obvious plug for the guilds line. Even if you take into account the discount for CS having 2 prereqs, the 50% bump bureau makes and the .25% bump education makes for Gunpowder, if you assume 40 Commerce for the cap and 40 for the rest of the civ with no multipliers, it's 7 turns faster to go guilds. You can't get it even Even at 100 commerce (and there is no way that you'll make that with this cap, this early) its 3 turns faster to go guilds.
However, if you put 1 GS bulb into education, it's 4 turns faster to go that route. So, to go the education route, I pretty much need to have 2 GS's (one for an academy, one for the bulb). I also probably need to move the cap, cause if I'm going to use an academy, I'm gonna want a cap with more commerce than 4 towns and a whale can give me.

The sim is for a huge map - is that what we are on? that seems like a lot of land.

ok - first simple sim went fishing->pottery->mining->BW, with a build order of worker->warrior->granary->wb->settler. That doesn't work - gets the settler out turn 38 or so, which is too long.
I think I'll try fishing->mining->BW and go worker->warrior->WB->settler, chopping when I can and pick up the granary later. That probably means less commerce, but I'll be able to build a cottage on a grass river sooner.

man, this is a ridiculously awkward start, particularly if we are, in fact, on a huge map. Techs take a long time on a huge map...
In one of my sims, I had a jungle spread to the only open grassland tile on like turn 9.
