[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

(November 11th, 2012, 07:07)Old Harry Wrote: I think Serdoa settled on turn one. Agree the scout might need to move to keep ahead of him. What are the rules about double moves if we wanted to wait and see what his scout does?

The last plan sounds good lewwyn - is the settler going somewhere near the spices? And is there a good pattern to chop the forests so they have the best chance of re-growing?

I hoped to play after him. if he veered off towards the gold (unexplored by him), we could wait and heal. if he moved to our tile, we would have to move and look for huts.

I just logged in to find only 2 teams haven't moved yet: us, and Serdoa.
sigh. Not sure if he's had the same though as me or if its just a coincidence.

I guess we'll have to stay on the move. I'll let Lewwyn do it, though.

I made a sandbox (haven't had time to try a faster sim than Lewwyn, but the sandbox will help me). I'm trying to upload it as an attachment in case anyone wants to play arond with it to try a sim, or check it for errors. But I get an error when I click "add attachment" - it says "The type of file that you attached is not allowed. Please remove the attachment or choose a different type." :/ any ideas to fix this?

edit: i can't upload any BTS saves, this isn't an RBmod issue.

lol games awaiting! Unfortunately, I just got back home from work and now I have to go out with my wife. Back in a couple hours.

so Serdoa forced us to keep moving to stay ahead of him, with this result:

I expected that to happen soon. Good news is no barbs to be seen, we can hit the 2 forests and PH to get back in cultural territory before healing (save 1 turn), then send the scout to the east about the same time that the warrior can get there (or a little bit ahead of the warrior).

I also think there is probably very little land on the other side of the peak near the gold. we'll have to wait on galleys to know for sure, though, that will have to wait a bit.

also, won't be a bad idea to let Serdoa move first here. I don't think he can see the coast yet, if he sees us retreating he might figure out that the land ends. Better he loses a scouting turn following us smile.

So I didn't get a demo screen from t17, but it probably doesn't matter as all the techs came this turn and I think they fell out like this:

BRicabod: Mining
Merohoc: Mining (or possibly Hunting)
Plako: The wheel
SlowCat: Mining

And one of Azza, Commodore, Serdoa or Xenu got a warrior. Any thoughts who?

If none of those guys got a warrior then someone must have got archery and that throws all my guesses off...

hmm. if you're right, Plako researching thewheel after ag must mean pottery is next (or else, why slot in the wheel).. he hasn't even discovered mining yet. He must feel pretty secure in his surroundings to go for pottery while that far away from BW, perhaps he is on the small?

I doubt anyone is teching archery this early - not until they know they don't have copper, at least. And it seems we will be one of the first to BW, despite not starting with mining. (which may mean most of our opponents have less forests than us in their BFC, which is encouraging).

I'm really unsure about Plako's wheel - I was desperately trying to assign soldier points, so it could just be another warrior and mining. Are people likely to be getting warriors already if they went worker first? (Slowcat are the only ones with EXP and they can't have the extra soldiers in tech or units as I've already got them at 6000 soldiers.)

Good news about the forests if it's true though!

I don't think non-exp Plako could have gotten a warrior out this quickly. Even if he had gone warrior first, gotten fishing instead of ag, switched to workboat, completed it then finished his warrior - he surely would have grown to size 2. I think its far more likely he has a few riverside tiles with no forests, has no reason to fear an early attack, and is shooting for an early pottery.

In any case we will get pottery pretty quickly after BW is completed, and have 2 cities and several workers running quickly as well, so I'm not concerned about falling behind there.
