RBP3 [SPOILERS] - Friendly Kittens (Ragnar of Maya)

Turn played. No pictures, there is nothing new to see. The lion in the west suicided into Jassana and died without scratching her. In the east the lion dissappeared into the fog, and Prrsah moved to the stone tile. Next turn we'll finally have a settler!

Okay, turn played. We're now flat-out LAST in GNP!

Yeah, "1" commerce per turn will do that to you.
Our anarchy's over next turn, and we'll be able to emergency whip stuff thereafter if needed.
(Our planned whips won't come for some time yet, but it's better to revolt now, before our second city's out.)
Also note the absence of barbs in Pride Rock's immediate vicinity (finally!)
Yalara is standing on the planned city spot, and the settler will arrive there next turn.
Both workers have chopped and had their orders CANCELED.
(They should do the same thing next turn too, and WAIT for the settler on the turn after.)

Prrsha moved as well, onto the forest hill to her southeast.

Some forests and stuff, but no exciting revelations like food or anything.
Her lion friend is still out of sight; we'll see what happens next turn.
If it's in sight (and therefore next to her) I'd say just fortify in place and let it suicide.
If not, I'd move her 1E to the grass forest. It looks like there's a forest hill SE of that.
(To which we'd move her the next turn if there are no barbs in the way.)

Also, after winning two no-scratch battles, should we stop complaining about the RNG?

Um, not really. It's hard to make up for the lost early scouting, but also...

...well, check out the battles in question for yourself.

Combat 1 warriors on forested hills, one with fortification, one against an injured beast.
That bear had ZERO percent odds against Prrsha, supposedly!

My plan for the next few turns follows below. As always, please let me know if I'm crazy! Just because I'm posting these doesn't mean they can't be improved upon!

Turn 43:
+ Since nothing's in sight, Yalara can't be attacked except by wolves or panthers* this interturn. She should slaughter either if they come at her, unless it's TWO panthers or something. (Nothing AT ALL can attack Jasana or Prrsha this interturn.)
*- well, or enemy (war)chariots, but come on.
So assuming she's still alive, she fortifies in place.
+ Our Settler moves 1SW-1W to join Yalara at the future site of Pride Rock. If no barbs can reach Jasana's plains forest hill in the interturn, she moves 1SW to join the city founding team. (I want to take no chances with this RNG!) If BOTH the city site and Jasana's tile are threatened by barbs, we should probably discuss the situation as a team.
+ Otherwise, Chmeee chops again, and his orders are then CANCELED!
+ Toulouse chops and cancels too, but the cancelation isn't as important as Chmeee's.
+ Prrsha fortifies in place if threatened by a barb; otherwise, I suggest moving her 1E.

Turn 44:
+ City of Pride Rock built by the Settler in place, sadly removing the forest. Start a monument there, and work the horse tile. (NOTE: DO THIS FIRST!!!)
+ AFTER Pride Rock has been settled, Chmeee and Toulouse chop; chops complete.
+ If Jasana is on the city site, either she, Yalara, or both move 1NW onto the horses. If Jasana is still on Chmeee's tile, she moves 1NW onto a grass forest hill just outside Pride Rock's borders (unless there's a barb in the way) and Yalara can either move onto the horses or start off in another direction to do at least some amount scouting. (We should probably discuss the question).
+ If she moved as suggested on T41, and my fog-gazing is correct, I suggest that Prrsha move 1SE onto a grass forest hill.
+ Reduce research rate to 0%. Future research rate may vary, depending on our actual maintenance costs, but I assume this one is correct at least.
+ Take screenshots of each of our city screens and post them in the thread! If nothing else, those maintenance costs will provide valuable information for future planning.

T45:

+ Chmeee moves 1SW to Pride Rock and ends his movement there.
+ If no barbs are in the way or apparently threatening the forest hill 2N of Pride Rock, Toulouse moves 1NW, looks around for barbs (Look and see if any are there. If so, mouse over to make sure there's just the one on its tile and whether it's injured. If there are no barbs present, then good. If another civ's unit is visible, don't worry about barbs; just finish making our moves. No need to rush, but don't dawdle either...) and then moves 1SW onto the grass forest hill. If barbs were visibly in troublesome spots before Toulouse moved at all, we should all consult, I suspect.
+ If any barbs (or other players' units) were or are visible in spaces from which they can move to that grass forest hill (remember, panthers and wolves can move two spaces) then make sure at least one of our warriors is on the hill with him. Depending on what happened last turn, this might mean moving Jasana or Yalara up there from the horses.
+ Pride Rock works its flood plain.
+ Increase research rate to 100%.

T46:
+ Worker3 complete at Fierias; start Settler.
+ Chmeee moves 1NW to horse and pastures.
+ Toulouse moves 1SW to horses and pastures.
+ Worker3 moves 1S to a grass river forest.
+ Warriors' moves should be discussed closer to the time, when more information is available.

T47:
+ The Wheel hits! Start Pottery.
+ Pasture complete; Pride Rock works horses, and can now build chariots! (It does not do so yet, of course.)
+ Worker3 chops.
+ More discussion of warrior moves this far ahead will likely be needed.
+ Reduce research rate to 0%.

Thanks for playing the turn, Maniac!

I added a couple notes to my next-few-turns outline above. In case it wasn't obvious, it's VERY important for Pride Rock to be built BEFORE Chmeee chops his forest.

You know, just for the record, I'm going to complain again about how crowded red dot is going to end up being. I know I got outvoted on this, and maybe this dotmap is the way to go, but it's still somewhat annoying. Nothing for it now, though, we're committed.

Edit: Really I'm just bored and need something to complain about...

We finally have a 2nd city. Here's a look at it:

Here's what the capital is up to these days:

Thanks for playing the turn for us, Maniac!

And ... wow. Okay.

So, I was right on one thing: This world has Toroidal wrap.

And Maniac was right on something else: There is NO water on this map. The occasional one-or-two-tile lake, sure, but there won't be any ships in this game, ever. Carthage and Portugal would be fish out of water ... if they didn't didn't have the two best leaders in the game.

This map is "huge" in name only, and it's probably a perfect square to boot. Distance maintenance costs for cities will be ... unpleasant. 2.33!!! Okay, that's just off the top of my head. I'll have to think further about the implications in terms of map size and the locations of our rivals. I'm pretty sure it won't hurt the microplan I've devised thus far, but it will require at least one minor adjustment around Turn 55. (Of course, one of you might come up with a better microplan than me anyway!)

More later. (Including corrections if what I posted here is utterly, ridiculously wrong.)

Okay, I couldn't find the exact formulas for city maintenance anywhere (I found a post that purported to provide them on CivFanatics, but either the numbers didn't add up or I misunderstood the formulae) but a little experimentation suggests that what I wrote above must be correct: I'm about 95% sure we're on a 64x64 square Toroidal map with tiny scattered lakes but no other water.

Stating spots most likely average 15-16 tiles apart, but we know there's some variation in that, of course: Korea planted their city on turn 0, meaning they can't have moved more than 1 tile closer to Egypt than they started, and Krill destroyed their capital on Turn 12, so those two teams started, AT MOST, 13 tiles apart. Since some teams moved their capitals significantly, the differences may be even greater: If we had some space to our west to begin with, the nearest capital site in that direction might be over 20 tiles away from Fierias, depending on who it is. Or it could be just out of sight, 10 tiles away.

I'll re-run my sims of the next 25 worker turns when I get a chance (and figure out how to recreate our actual map situation.) For now, I suggest moving Prrsha 1E to another forested hill. The other warriors' actions will depend on whether barbarians are sighted in the interturn (or by Toulouse as he's en route next turn).
