[PB66 - Spoiler] 3rd times the charm?

Turn 59 (1640 BC)

Trucking along - founding my 4th city Core last turn. My GLH gambit is running into a little bit of trouble, am lacking a worker or two to support Core (it's temporarily borrowing the lake crab for food, although no road connection) - and the barbs are _not_ cooperating this game. Sure I'm running an absolute military farmer's gambit - 3 warriors and only just finishing an axe 2 turns ago, but having potentially 2 barb warrior incursions, after 1 had already pillaged a resource and likely soon to be another, is a little annoying.

Temporary axe diversion at Ziggurat will delay GLH by 3 turns, my pre-existing axe needs to be over at Core just-in-case. Mjmd being at 6 cities is also a little worrying, given he's been on 6 for a few turns now, but not much I can do atm.

Log out. idk what a pile of gold can do here, and its especially fustrating knowing I was beaten by 2 turns, and I was delayed by 3 due to a barb and insuffient defenses.

Turn 73 (1080BC)

Still painful to have lost TGL, so have used my few cities to whip out some settlers. 4 cities on turn 70 is not good, but I've got a city founding this turn, and another 2 to found in the following few turns - trying to sprawl out a little bit meaning a lot of moveing and worker labour diverted to roading to next locations. Painful on the worker labour, but this is part of the consequence of failed gambits.

Our 5th city is founded (still behind basically everyone in city count, but belatedly catching up):

Pigs, Gold, and gives a good gateway to the west, just need to see what's over there! Ziggy is actually building a Galley or two, scout out the coast and islands noticed down below, just to scope out what's there.

Meanwhile, over in the east...

One settler to found next turn on the tundra hill, and another coming out of the capital to fill in some unused space, and can run on minimal worker labour (which is important given current worker focus at the fringes of my civ) - can borrow the wheat and capital can bang out a WB with overflow to work the crab. Also very curious if that sheep hill island has more to it.

It's much more cramped in the east than in the west, and so will probably try to place next city post-current-settling-wave over here, (if its still available!) Mjmd has predictably expanded a lot! and civac is right there under the fog too - hence the few axes milling around to assert some kind of presence.

Demos do look grim, though we are recovering from whips everywhere and, again, and unfortunately slow start. Who the hell has 75 GNP though???

Turn 75 (1000BC)

Despite the slow start, we've lept up back into average-ish city count with 7 in a couple of turns. Destroys our economy pretty badly, now break-even at just 30%, and our food on the demos are still lagging, and will probably continue to be for the forseeable future, I'm a least a little more comfortable with something resembling a core. Playground and KingOfTheMarble are the most recent ones.

Tech-wise I'm gunning for MC, going to try and see if we can get the Colossus, although the tech rate has sagged enough that I've not made any concrete plans, might want to chop the forge out as that will be more painful than building the wonder itself. Marble City, my Pig+Gold tile has a fair few hills and forests, could be a good candidate. Even if we do miss it though, getting them in play relatively early when we have access to Gold and Silver.
Not feeling too worried militarily either atm, so full economic steam ahead.

Also funny to play with score after having played without, if only to make spotting the Oracle builder the easiest thing in the world, heh. Not grabbing MC is a big boon for my rough plan at least.

Well, I guess its time to worry now - also didn't notice until near the end of the turn like a doofus, so any slim hope of holding this is probably already gone. queueing up military builds to try and whip asap - my few units are at the fringes of my empire - not central so i can't really move much into the city to defend it dsgfjxfgkdf

Well, its been short... and not at all sweet.

Maybe I should have some more thoughts considering how quickly everything has fallen apart, but I don't really. I gambled hard initially, lost, and gambled harder in response, only to lose again. Do I regret it? Well obviously to some degree, but not as much as I expected. If anything I regret the initial gamble more.
