Well, that's the point. Free Artist =P I'll capture a city and culture bomb, and then see how things go. Most likely, i'll have to bail out after that. Point out how easy i can capture his other city, and demand for peace? We'll see.

[Spoilers] Amelia, Tempest of the Seas

Amelia Wrote:Bob: But if that's the case is that even worth the city slot? Darrell has his borders N NE of that spot, and if i put a city there he might get angry. He might think of those horses as his horses after all. Calabim borders being two tiles away isn't so close that you'd be settling too aggressively. And if you let them take the spot, then it's them settling aggressively on your borders, which is even worse (for you). Plus, they're the Calabim. They're going to fight you sometime, because how else do you think they're going to win the game? Maybe ToM, but that's out if they have about the same number of nodes as you. So I wouldn't hold back your own civ just to preserve their feelings. And if you don't think that you can hold a city there, then that mainly just implies to me that you need a lot more defenders, of a sturdier quality. Finally, I thought you also had an NAP with the Calabim due to your helping them invade Ilios? If that's the case, then that should give you enough time to shuffle defenders into the city and get some walls up.
Oh damn, i've read the research screen wrongly. Looks like the free artist has already been taken =(
I swapped to warfare, hopefully i won't need it, but maybe i might need city attack promotion. Unlocking conquest (just in case) isn't bad as well. After this i'll stop by Archery, then head towards Currency, followed by Trade. Edit: Well, either way, I still have another city site to go to, and if the war goes to plan, i'll have a lot of space to expand into. Also, i revealed Serdoa's / Darrell's army this turn. Serdoa has 20 warriors / 1 frek, while Darrell has 5 bloodpets, all fortified on a hill NE of the fort in the last screenshot. Ilios is using his tigers to batter them down though, without a medic they'll soon be toast.
Raiders mechanics question!
I don't have construction. However, Ilios does. Can i use his bridges? Because if this works, i can raze 2 of his cities immediately.
Not sure. I recommend a WB test.
Civilization IV: 21 (Bismarck of Mali), 29 (Mao Zedong of Babylon), 38 (Isabella of China), 45 (Victoria of Sumeria), PB12 (Darius of Sumeria), 56 (Hammurabi of Sumeria), PB16 (Bismarck of Mali), 78 (Augustus of Byzantium), PB56 (Willem of China)
Hearthstone: ArenaDrafts Profile No longer playing Hearthstone.
Oh wow that's a fast answer, heh. Oh well, testing now.
Result: Testing shows that a city next to ocean, but having 0 sea resources in it, means that no work boat is available. The shame. Also, even if Ilios has construction, i can't use his bridges. oh well.
I hate to say this, but...
I honestly have played this wrong FROM THE START. The key would have been to build Horsemen, to take advantage of 3 move + raiders (With Mobility 1 if needed) to strike at Ilios and raze his cities without him being able to do anything. Sure, after like 2-3 cities he would have fortified the rest, but then he can easily be whittled down by Serdoa. Instead, i decided to use Saverous + Swordsmen as an attack core... and i'm really regretting it now.
Hmm... Well, horsemen are good for pillaging and razing cities, but they can't hold them worth a damn. So, what was your initial approach? Did you want to do damage? Or did you want to actually take cities from Ilios, in which case Saverous + friends is probably a better choice.
Now, sure, you have been overtaken by events somewhat - Ilios got advance warning of the stacks' arrival, and seems to be holding out so far. But you weren't necessarily wrong in your army composition. Also, can we have some screenshots of what's happening right now?
Will get them next turn, just suffice to say i've entered his borders. And it's not good.
My first thought was that i would take one or two cities, and hold them, giving Serdoa enough time to sweep the rest of his armies, then i can take one or two more to boot. Except now i've seen with my own hawk that out of Serdoa's initial 10 warriors, he has like 10 left. Calabrim has probably 3 bloodpets left. If i knew that Serdoa would be so easily wiped out, my primary objective would have been to raze instead. I see with my hawk 3 different cities with 1-2 defenders, including his capital. A fast raider horse party would have killed those 2 and he wouldn't even have time to bring back his troops. The main fault i guess, is the fact that i needed to attack in the first place. I'm the Lanun, i do best by sitting back and enjoying myself over a cup of tea (or a wave of sea water, as they say in pirate lands!) My production has been horrible, Serdoa accused me of building a Settler with my other city when i should be focusing on military, but that Settler was built with like 4 hammers per turn (and 10 food as well). I'm getting construction end of next turn, which will be just in time to strike into his centre faster than what he can manage. I have the element of surprise, none of my swordsmen are promoted to mobility YET. I can suddenly move faster and take down his capital. I'll get conquest at the end of next next turn, and i'll probably swap to it once i get sanitation as well. The way it's going, Serdoa will die first, then i'll be the next to follow, and then Ilios wins. I can't let that happen (about me being next to folllow) since my defense is now like 6 warriors for 5 cities. I need to build more and more (Probably lots of horseman this time for defense, especially if Saverous cuts it).
HA or chariots are a much better investment than horsemen, unless ilios is pumping out archery units. Four strength is very weak for this stage, mobility or not.
It's rich that Serdoa would accuse you of not sending enough forces, when it sounds like the Calabim contributed only a handful of bloodpets. And why has Serdoa been using a warrior army? There's little he can accomplish with that besides giving the Malakim free exp. Could you post some of your diplo along with screen shots next turn? |
