He sounds pretty hurt I'm accusing him of playing clock games. I get we all have busy lives. It is very possible that is the case. However, to me there was the appearance that he was as I commented on earlier and I just didn't know what to do about it. I didn't want to play clock games; that felt bad, so I went with a more straightforward approach? So should I have played clock games and hope he wasn't or be upfront. I would argue my path is slightly less shady.

When in doubt... find chores or something to do till the end-ish of the turn. Otherwise, when peace is up, the declaring party THEN can more or less decide what part of the turn they desire. But during a peace treaty? Not the best timing.

I don't know what timezone you live in, but FWIW I know he lives on the west coast and therefore often has quite late play windows naturally.

Sorry for not picking up on that question earlier, though I’m not sure what I would’ve suggested. Who had the second half of the turn last time you were at war? If it was pindicator, is it possible he assumed renewed conflict was inevitable and wanted to keep the split the way it was? Plemo and I had something like that occur in our long standoff in PB51.

I did not know that Scooter. Here is what I knew, most of it good
1) He loves hiking! I am jealous he gets to.
2) He is an experienced player who agreed to ded lurk a green in PB49 and now PB54. Great.
3) He made the map for the new PBEM. Huge time commitment so could very well have played a part. Blessing and curses to all map makers.
4) He got a new dog. Cats are clearly better, but I think he got from a shelter so I'll let it slide.

5) He hasn't double played a turn even while at peace. I actually asked my question twice and never got a response either time.

Quote:In other news Pin is camping the last part of the turn timer even with 8 turns left in peace just to set a precedent probably...... Love everything about it..... What happens if I'm in second half of turn timer with Charriu against Jowy and then want to declare on Pin? Just let him know that turn? I mean its not like I'm going for a big surprise attack; he knows.

Question for lurkers. I would want 2nd half of turn, should I just PM him next turn to just not waste time dicking about? Peace expires in 2, so would be alerting him 1 turn early, but its not like its a surprise.

The first time where I mention I thought he was camping was because he played a 20 minute turn and then didn't double play. That's like the shortest turn he has played in the last 100 turns. Now maybe something else was happening ect ect. I mean there is a short time frame to choose from as he's been at war, but if you look at the last 10 turns I count he ended the turn 5 times and then didn't even play a little to try to reduce time later. What is a noob supposed to think? I haven't played any other games with him and since he has been at war soo long I just had a small bit of information.

6) Obviously didn't know he had family in danger and now I feel awful.

What I did was weird noob thing to do, I didn't camp the clock, which in Pins words people look on "disfavorably". So instead of doing the shady clock games I let my opponent know ahead of time giving him an advantage. Sure its weird, but if I had played clock games, people would call me names for that and I would feel bad on top of it.

@El Grillo. Nothing for sure, but it was convenient Plemo made peace with me the same turn he declared on you the first time in PB51. He could have done so I believe 2 turns earlier given the situation (I had taken the city back he had captured).

It sounds like the game will start moving again shortly. Have you had any new thoughts on if/where/how to launch an attack?

I'm about to play the turn! Setup turn, so pictures next turn. Only slightly buzzed from wine, so its fine. I've traded one incredibly skilled player for another who isn't war weary and spent 2.5 hrs on his first turn taking over!!!! Obviously I'm in trouble (Superdeath please make a meme if you feel inclined).

I see the war in phases.
Phase 1 goals
- bleed the knights
- Burn the border cities
Phase 2
- Buildup while slowly pressing - includes drafting and upgrading units into cav. Need to build a 2nd army here for the east.
Phase 3
- keep pressing while surviving a likely two front war.

Big unknown is obviously what is Jowy going to do? One of the reason I'm going to have to draft during a golden age probably pretty heavily. No other way even with my superior production base to build two armies. Mind you if he sees this and decides to slam into remains of AT / Cairo depending on progress and I can turn even half that army around........

Other unknowns is how many caravels Carthage has. He has 1 in my southern waters and 1 hanging out around Maple Sugar. I can probably 1 turn them from Maple Sugar during a golden age if I want to.... Seems like a good call as I can turn that sea food into rifles via the draft if I manage to hold the sea. I would also still love to take that island as imagine its just on caravel whipping duty.

Is the plan still to send in one big attack along the north or split to hit both land bridges?

I’ve been running some renaissance combat sims where one side has a tech advantage, and when there’s a bunch of Catapults in the mix for a defensive alpha strike, it seems like having Cannons makes a bigger difference than having Rifles or Cuirassiers, since they soak collateral and don’t get flanked by Knights. Of course Rifles have the benefit of being draftable and Cuirassiers get to exploit gains better after the main stack is defeated, but the effect of having your own siege flanked away after your top defenders are softened is a bigger deal than I thought.
