Turn Discussion Thread

Yeah, I see that. Unless I find a break in time while here at work, I'll check it and play most of the stuff tonight when I get home. Most every move won't take any discussion. The only part to discuss will be if we decide to change how the production is being done at Animal Farm.

So I guess just don't end the turn yet.

That's the plan. I won't really know exactly what our options for Animal Farm are until I log in and look at what the various choices are.
Such as changing what tile we are working as you mentioned, doing a 2-Pop whip now, doing a 1-Pop whip next turn, or just letting it slow build. Those are basically our options.
I just need to see if I can figure out how to calculate what the results of each would be. That's usually what Mortius is best at, but he's still AWOL.
If any of the rest of you on our team that seem to mostly just lurk without posting know how to calculate the stuff (such as how many turns it'll take to regrow if we whip, based on how long it'll take for the Unhappy faces to go away, etc) for us...it would be appreciated if you speak up. smile

I've never been good with the whipping stuff, and I don't think I have time to try and figure it out before our turn is up. In my single-player games, I used to only use the whip in military emergencies; only recently have I begun using it for infrastructure builds, and then not nearly enough compared to expert players. Somehow I've made it to Emperor though!

Edit: (This is not an urgent question.) How do you post images here? I tried a few minutes ago but it said the file was too big at 1.5 mb - maximum 500 kb. What does everyone else do?

First, an answer to your question. You have to host them somewhere else and then use the "Insert image" button (that you can see after clicking Preview Post) and link to where you have the image stored. I've been using Dropbox.com for my images lately.

Now, onto the pressing matters for this turn. Stupid me didn't realize this was going to happen until after I moved the axes....when I moved the axe out of Animal Farm, one of the citizens went unhappy because we were at the happy max due to the previous whipping. So now for at least a turn (it's next turn when the warrior to the west could move into the city) we would be wasting production as shown below:

So my suggestion is that we whip out another axe immediately this turn. It will drop the population back down to 2 and it'll take a little while before it grows back to the point of the citizens not working because they are unhappy. By that time we can probably leave a warrior there to quell the rioting. Plus, it gets us another axe immediately. Getting that axe, should make it pretty easy for us to take Tortuga even with them getting an axe or two into the city.

Because as shown below next turn we'll have 2 Axes and a Warrior on that forest next to the city. Axe #3 will be 1 turn behind them, and Axes #4 & 5 should only be another turn behind that.

I forgot to move the warrior near Tortuga before taking the above screenshot, so here is one with him moved:

As you can see their axe is closing in on the city. On the tile in front of the axe would be their 2 Qucheuas & 2 Workers. They would have made a road there last turn. This turn they will move next to the city to finish their road. Which will allow the Axe to move next to the city this turn (he would be able to cover the 2 workers) and the other two Quechuas will be able to either move into the city or kill our warrior there.

So next turn we would move our units onto the forest next to the city and they would get all their units into the city. That would give them 5 Quechua's & 1 Axe in the city with us having 2 Axes & 1 Warrior next to it. So we will need to wait for our other 3 Axes before we attack (I think). By that time they will most likely have whipped out another Axe in Tortuga. Hopefully we'll still be able to take it.

So....do you agree with the whipping right now? If so, I'll do so and end the turn. Everything else is already done.

So the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there was no other option at this point. There is no reason not to whip this turn. If we didn't whip, we would waste a turn of having an unhappy citizen, and it would even further delay getting that next Axe out. So I whipped the city, and as you can see it will already regrow to size 3 in just 2 turns:

I took a shot of the Demographics screen both before and after whipping:
Before whipping

After whipping

And now for the new war front:
And as you can see, we now have a steady stream of Axemen heading towards Tortuga. They may be able to have as many as 2 axes in the city before we attack, but with our 5 total axes it hopefully shouldn't be too difficult to take the city.

And on the other side of the world, here is Capra (our scout) is finding. The Trolls have their two cities placed pretty close together, since they already have nearly connecting borders. We should probably go southward now around their capital. If we squeeze between their borders, we'll end up right next to their Axe. And that might be too tempting for them not to get some easy experience by killing our scout.

I need to go run some combat sims ... are we certain there isn't another axe on the fogged tile? Your reference to seeing an axe in Barbados several posts ago confused me, as I didn't see it in any of the screenshots, so I don't know where it could be right now ... as referenced in one of my posts a couple posts ago.

Edit: Thanks for the answer on screenshots. I guess I'll have to go sign up for Dropbox.

I think whipping the axe was the correct choice ... as was moving the axe out of the city, despite the unhappiness. All troops to the front! We'll have to think about whether to move the warrior out in a couple turns too. I'm still confused about their axe(s), but I guess there's nothing we could really do regardless of the answer, and we'll find out shortly anyway. Setting up combat sims in Worldbuilder turned out to be more annoying than I thought, so I only ran one, 5 axes & 2 warriors vs. 2 axes & 5 quechuas, all unpromoted (since I couldn't figure out how to add promotions). We lost three of our axes taking out their two, and would have had to whittle down their quechuas over the subsequent turns (praying they didn't get another axe up). If they get three axes into the city, or two and another even two or three turns behind, we can't do it. If for some reason they only get one, we're golden. So - I am still quite concerned about this fight, and waiting with bated breath. I think we should both be online at the same time in a couple turns when the attack goes in, so we can assess what to do after each combat result, as this may well decide the game. What do you think?

I agree with your scouting plan. Careful about ending next to any roads for the same reason.

Yes, we know for a fact that they don't have another Axe on the fogged tile. It's just 2 Quechua's. If you scroll all the way back to Mortius' post on Oct 9th, he shows a fogged tile that had the Worker/Quchua group that was starting the road. They didn't have an axe until turn 48, and that's the axe which is heading towards Tortuga.
It appeared in the city after they played their turn 48, which is why Mortius' screenshots of turn 48 doesn't show it. On turn 49 they moved it 2SW. On turn 50 (this turn) they will be able to move it 2SW again, to be next to Tortuga.

Okay, thank you; I was trying to figure it out, I'm just dense & overworried. I edited my post above with my thoughts on the turn; that was before I saw you posted this. Very sorry to keep bothering you about that tile and mythical axe.

Here are the Pirates' moves ... not entirely as expected (also testing using Dropbox):

I suggest moving the warrior on the corn 1SE-1SW-1NW to avoid dying and arrive in time to participate in the attack.

Okay, that still didn't work. I copied the Dropbox link, clicked "add image," pasted the link ... is there some sort of security thing on Dropbox I need to adjust? I don't see anything ...
