Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

On our turn, was there anything we were planning to do with the warrior 2S of Barbados or can we move it 1SW to gain LoS on the whole road? I guess the warrior 3N of Barbados will also move 1SW ... the scout, maybe 1S, 1SW to avoid ending next to the road? The workers could road the Ivory to get one of the axes up a turn faster ... all the other units we pretty much know, except that trailing warrior - I think we could move him past Animal Farm this turn as he won't be needed for police duty yet, just in case we decide he's needed up at Tortuga. Animal Farm should probably keep building axes, for safety's sake and just so it can regrow. What do you think?

Yeah, that's all pretty much what I was thinking. The only one I'm going to be trying to decide on is the warrior next to Tortuga. There isn't any reason to send him the long way around the mountain. So either we leave him on the Corn, to help keep the city from growing fast, or we move him SW. If we leave him where he is, they might use a unit to kill it. But that would remove a unit from being able to guard the city. If we move him SW, there's the same situation, but if they move something to attack it...that unit would then be vulnerable to our forces.
I'm leaning towards just fortifying him on the Corn.

I see you played the turn already ... I guess that's the advantage of planning in advance!

Yeah, I did. I'll post the screenshots I took in a little bit, but right now I'm packing for my flight. Feel free to log in and take a look around yourself in the meantime.

Aha! It is as I began to suspect at the end of last turn ... remember in our chat conversation how we were trying to figure out where all their quechuas went, and we concluded they must have two on the (then) fogged tile between Barbados and Tortuga? They don't! We were overestimating their number of quechuas by two. That's why I asked to move the one warrior onto the hill tile where we would be able to confirm this. So they currently have:

1 Spear (huh?) in Port Royal
1 Axe in Barbados
2 Quechuas 1SW of Barbados
1 Axe, 1 Quechua 1NE of Tortuga
2 Quechuas in Tortuga

And any other random scouting units they may have.

Posting up the screenshots quickly since it's easier to do now than try to do later from the laptop while at the airport. smile

First up is our scouting with Capra. He'll be dead next turn, because we already know how TEAM treats scouts. They've declared war on every team when they've caught a scout within range. I guess we would have been better off taking the risk going through the area between the Troll cities. Oh well, no way we could have known TEAM had their warrior down there.

Now for the really important stuff:

I still believe they have 2 Quechua's somewhere in the fog and I will keep thinking & planning for that until we have Tortuga in our hands. I'm not completely surprised that they made spear up there. They most likely started a warrior after building the city while they were mining and roading their copper. Once the copper was hooked up, the production changed the warrior into a spear. We were tempted to do the same thing with Opportunity.

Anyway, next turn we will have 4 Axes & 1 Warrior next to Tortuga. I'm expecting them to kill the warrior on the corn with their axe, and then move the axe into Tortuga. I realized after the fact I probably should have moved one of our two axes onto the tile S of Tortuga, instead of both of them onto the forest. But too late for that now.
Next turn, depending on where their axe actually is (and what the combat odds are) I may attack with the two axes that turn, with the other two axes moving in as protection (with them able to attack the following turn).
Otherwise, we'll be attacking with all 4 axes 2 turns from now. Hopefully that's enough to kill their axe and most of their quechuas.

I didn't realize warriors auto-changed into spears and not axes ... that may help us at Tortuga if they were building a warrior before they got the road connection up. I'm still expecting them to whip a unit out in Tortuga at any minute. I don't think they'll attack the warrior with their axe unless they do so (and even then, probably not), because as they can't get it back into the city the same turn, that would leave Tortuga exceedingly exposed.

I agree that we should consider (but only consider) attacking next turn, but if we do so, can we both be online and chatting while we do so? If the first axe doesn't take down theirs very much, for example, we may have a difficult choice about whether to send the second one in, and I'd rather we both be present for that decision (not because I don't trust your judgement, just because it's so important!).

Next turn I actually suggest we move all our units onto the plains tile 1S of Tortuga. That way if they manage to pump more units into the city than we can handle, we can maneuver around to cut their road connection, and then we will take the city, even if it takes a while.

Pirate movements for this turn:

They now have:

-- in Port Royal
1 Spear 1W of Barbados
1 Axe 2SW of Barbados (3NE of Tortuga)
2 Quechuas 2NE of Tortuga
1 Axe, 3 Quechuas in Tortuga

I suggest waiting until the turn after this coming to attack; by then, if they have not whipped an axe in Tortuga, we will be able to attack with four axes to their one. If they have whipped an axe by that point, we will not have lost anything by waiting, as we would be attacking with two axes to their one either way. If we wait an additional turn beyond that, we will be attacking with five axes to their two or three, which is much less favourable. In no scenario is it possible to take the city in one turn of attacking, because of their sheer number of quechuas; in all scenarios we will have to attack, promote to heal, then continue attacking until all their units are destroyed. If they can whip at all, this will be tight.

We might want to move our northernmost warrior 1SW onto the road next to Port Royal. Since Port Royal can't whip and I don't think they have anything in Barbados, this would delay the progress of their spear to Tortuga by one turn, and if we got lucky ...

Ok, I'm available right now to log in to play the turn and I have to do so now as our day-long party is going to start having people show up soon and I won't have time during it really. So if you are around, hop on gmail so we can chat once I start checking out combat options.

EDIT: Ignore me. I somehow misread the tech issues thread and thought I saw a post from Lewwyn telling us it was our turn.
