Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

PBEM46 tech thread

I posted a link to the web viewer set up to view the game as per Old Harry's turn 138 in the lurker thread.

It's still very much a work in progress, though.
I have to run.

I don't feel I have a say in this Azza, but I will of course agree if conceding is decided.

Something about having to rip the save from my cold, dead hands.

I don't think we're totally done yet...

I thought you might want to carry on a bit, Old Harry. Is everyone okay with that? If so, I'm happy to continue, but I'm obviously happy with the inverse as well. Maybe just don't feel you have to rush to your turns, everyone, or something?

Play on then.

I might not have Internet tomorrow (changed provider which will actually be switched over tomorrow). Please excuse any potential delay due to this.

No problem, Serdoa.

It looks like I won't be able to get to the save tonight, which means it's actually no delay at all, since I'll be delaying it first!

Guys, I can't do this any more. I don't think I've mentioned it in this thread yet, but I have repeatedly in my spoiler thread and over in Pitboss 10, which most of you can read: I'm (unexpectedly) way over-extended in terms of games right now, having just made the transition from lazy student to full-time worker months before I expected to get a job. This game and PB 10 in particular are causing me stress, because the one I feel (am) obligated to report on, since it's a team game, and this one I feel immense pressure to perform in, because I'm (apparently) winning, contrary to all my expectations, and it will almost certainly be my first completed game on this site. I really want to report on it, too, which takes considerable time; the turns themselves take, what, two hours to play? An hour-and-a-half if I go more quickly? Anyway, the other one, despite being a team game, I don't think there's anyone who can play for me for a while, because I think everyone else is on it specifically as a non-turn-player. So the change, if there's going to be any, has to come here. I would not like to hand my civ over to someone else, due to my substantial investment in it. Neither am I in a reasonable position to concede. Thus, with deep regret, I would like to request officially a substantial decrease in the expected turn-pace for this game, from one complete round every one day to one round every two to three days. I see this as an opportunity for Serdoa and Azza to not stress about playing turns urgently in a game they've both expressed the desire to concede and focus on their other games, while for me it would allow me to fulfill my responsibilities in Pitboss 10, not stress about this game so much, not feel so guilty about holding turns, and continue to play to the best of my ability while having time to spend on other, restful pursuits. I apologize most profoundly to Old Harry for this request, since he is probably most excited about trying to seize the victory from behind in this game and continuing to demonstrate his consummate skill in so doing. He or anyone else is free to veto this request, since it is contrary to the established constitution and expectations for this game, but I hope - well, I hope not. I was not even going to make this request, since I did not think the game would go on much longer (your offer to concede filled me with great hope, Azza), but I have come to realize this game might take quite some time to resolve, and that its outcome is by no means certain, so I feel the need to humbly make this request for a reprieve, with further profound apologies.

In unrelated news, I cannot play the save right now. I have already held it for 24 hours, for which I'm deeply sorry (I was at an event yesterday which I was too stupid to realize would go way too late for me to play), and on opening it now (well, some time ago now), it will take far too much thought for me to resolve on an afternoon supposed to be spent relaxing in preparation for another blasted week at work. So I apologize profoundly, but I can't do this for another 24+ hours. I'm sorry.

That's fine with me - I hadn't realised quite how much time medieval warfare took - I'm intrigued to see just how bad modern warfare gets! Anyway, I think that once the war is over things will improve for you, but don't let it affect your RL.

I'm pretty impressed at the turn pace we've managed to keep up so far. I think the most important thing is to let everyone know if you need a pause - like you and serdoa did this week - that way I can adjust my expectations (and perhaps get drunker than normal - would you believe this game has been good for my health?)
