You probably pissed off your vassals. Maybe you got excommunicated or something. You generally need to do some bribing after inheritance because your vassals won't like your new ruler nearly as much as the old one.

In the end, CK2 just boils down to a social popularity game.

wouldn't start too small though ... something the size of say Denmark or some of the Russian Principalicies, is what i found easiest to learn on, when learning to play a 'top dog' with no liege ... when learning to play as an vassal i'd suggest either Tuscany, Lower Lorraine or Saxony, as all three of them is big enough to be able to throw around some weight.

- When your vassals have a revolt risk (this'll show up in your alerts at the top of the screens), check their opinion of you, and why they hate you. If it's something you can control (say, "Too Many Held Duchies": Kings that have more than 2 ducal titles annoy their vassals), fix it.
- Don't take actions that cause tyranny: if it says "will reduce all your vassal's opinion of you by X", don't do it unless you have a very good reason.
- Keep your vassals weak. Never give a 2nd county to anyone who isn't your heir. Never give a 2nd duchy to anybody. Make sure any newly created vassals match your culture and religion; if you can find content vassals, so much the better. Never create ambitious vassals.
- Keep a reserve fund for mercs. Probably around 200g is sufficient for a couple thousand men in a pinch.
- The new faction thing means you've got another potential source of trouble, but it makes the above statements even more true.

So, do you plan to start over any time soon (with or without the newest dlc)? This was a very entretaining thread, and it was specially pleasing the way the reports were written, roleplay heavy and all that jazz. The succession format really worked with CK2 and added a lot of flavor.
I think it would be cool if someone could post a "closing" report on how the current game ended.
Anyways, congrats on the reports and hope to lurk soon the next attempt.

It is a bit much, granted. But in compensation some of the threads over at the Paradox forums are priceless.

Heh, I wasn't planning on getting this one. But now I may just have to read a couple of the AARs

The threads that he's talking about were people complaining about the DLC and its absurdity.

And the absurd lengths some people will go to say whether it is "Alt-Hist" or straight "fantasy". I'm in the "neither it's just bas fishin'" camp.
