I'm on the fence. It's been trouble-free in my corner of the world, and I wouldn't mind playing on. But I understand the general feeling that the game is better off being ended, and my chance of coming back and winning is minuscule. So I won't vote right now, but if the clear majority is in favour of ending, I won't hold it

I guess we're really done with this. I sure would have liked to give my army a try, but not this time. I suggest we declare everyone loser. We just need 11 more votes to make it official so come on and join me.

I was hoping to be showed wrong, but I'm on board with a vote to end the game. I don't think we should rub it in to vote everyone a loser though; let's try to wrap this up as amicably as possible. If we feel we need to award a winner, I would suggest voting for an actual winner independent of a vote to end the game.

Or better, how about we try to get on pace with the spirit of the game, and intentionally vote no winner, and then just try to have fun with the lurker appointed awards at the end. That's what we were all playing for, right? For fun?

I'm in a similar position to Yuris in that I have next to no chance of winning. In my case I don't really have that much to say in the outcome anywhere. If there is a call for a victory vote, I'd like to join in the votes for 'Stupendous man' for being stupendously fun in an otherwise angry thread.

FWIW, my two cents as a non-participant. My opinion is that it's better to end the game that hardly anybody seems to be enjoying rather than prolong a game that is doing nothing but harming the community. It's disappointing to see some of the nasty stuff here, and it really makes me think more harm than good is being done here.

Although this is not a bad alternative:

To be clear, I was also advocating ending the game. I'm just hoping we can re-kindle some of that goodwill and party-like atmosphere we had at the beginning of the game

I think our side of the map is fine. And, I find parkin's powergaming (really, his powergaming denials) to be distasteful and Seven's diplo persona to be horrifying, but I can live with them. I think there are two reasons to end though:

1) Other players have really big problems with parkin and/or Seven. To the point where it's very clear those players are finding the game super non-fun.

2) Some of the people with the aforementioned rage are starting to go way too far with their counterattacks (indisputably with the admitted intentional spy mission rule breakage, and arguably with the cheese city defense). Having to constantly reload the game and/or having some people get cities for free by design will pretty much ruin the game.

I still vote against ending it right now. At least not yet.
At this point, I'm using this game as a refresher of some of the game mechanics since it's been so long since I've played. And I'm not done with being refreshed. smile

I agree with (almost) every point in this post. This game did not work out in the spirit it was proposed, and has made even those of us who were having fun just feel depressed.

Yes, have to agree with this. Perhaps I'm lucky to have only one neighbour by land, and no bad blood between us

I think the biggest take-away from this game is: Don't allow double moves. At least not when you're not absolutely sure all players are of the same mindset about them.

The fact is we have one group of folks who genuinely find their enjoyment in obsessing over little details (and yes, I'm one of them), and another group of folks who enjoy a very laid-back approach to the game. Theoretically it should be possible for both groups to coexist if they maintain these mentalities... but in practice a subset of the latter group tends to resent the former group for not playing just like them. There's no real solution to this - either one group is unhappy because the other is more actively involved in the game, or the other group is unhappy because they are forced to have less involvement in the game. Either way, one group's enjoyment comes at the cost of the other's.

I still don't know why we haven't yet just disallowed double moves for this game. It wouldn't fix everything, but it would go a huge step of the way there.

For the record, if nothing's changing on the double move front, I'm not opposed to ending the game at some point soon if the majority is in favour. It would certainly allow more time for other endeavors, such as the intersite game.
