Ok, so a forge, for example, would affect it, but not a grocer.
In world news, the privateer is just moving along my coast. No pillaging yet; maybe just a warning? Or maybe just exploring, though if it’s mackoti we have an OB so he could do so with a caravel or a galleon instead.
In domestic news, we finished Optics and are now on to Astronomy with 5 turns to go. Rifling would also be 5 turns, or we can do Chemistry in 4. I’m at 0% right now for 1 turn, so it’s easy enough to change. What do you think is the best path? Rifling gives us Cavalry and Rifles, Astronomy gives us Galleons, Chemistry gets us nothing (except the workshop bonus), but makes Frigates available when we hit Astronomy. Now that I talk about it, Rifling first. Then Astronomy. Then Chemistry. You can hurt someone economically with a navy, but it doesn’t capture land.
We planted Zebra in our misclicked place. Working the riverside pigs and building a granary. Moved two workers onto the pigs to start pasturing them right away, so they’ll be done in two turns. A Confucian missionary is also en route to give us a religion and some culture.
I have another settler ready right now, do you think I should go ahead and plant that forward city on the grassland hill?
And finally, graphs:

Prod:
Crops:
You can see the slight dip when Fox was razed.

Still respectable, but you can see mackoti has an enormous lead right now. Part technology, but I think he's building lots of units right now.
Have you got anything that'll counter whatever Mackoti is currently building? Also can you reinforce ALL of the coastal cities that he can hit from the fog?
I don't know what he's building...I don't really have a lot of visibility into his lands. I guess I can send a scout in and see what's going on.
If he holds off long enough for me to get Rifling, I can stack them with Rifles and Cavalry. Probably not a bad idea to begin to redeploy, anyway. I think I'll log in and start moving some of my units to my critical cities.
It’s extortion, but at least it’s the good kind of extortion where he’s offering protection. Of course, if he ends up attacking someone the DP ends and I’m in no better position. The cost is high, but not that high. If I refuse, he has a stack of Riesengardes (14 strength grens), and I’m still 5 turns from Rifling and Cavalry, which are the only things that can effectively fight them, since they’re +50% against Rifles. With this deal it’ll slow me to Rifling, but I’ll still get there before the 10 turn mark. So I decided to accept the deal. Yeah, it’ll help him and slow me, but it’s better than having a bunch of cities smashed.
Anyway, in world news, GJ was eliminated, which if you watch the Tech Threat you already knew. Got my ivory back for an extra happiness that I didn’t desperately need. Retep got a GE, so we may see a wonder pop up here shortly.
Domestically, with the threat of mackoti neutralized I actually feel a little bit of relief, despite the financial cost. Because this is what he has waiting for his next target…
15 galleons, almost certainly full of Riesengardes. Last turn there was a stack of about 20 of them ready to board, and now the stack isn’t there anymore. I suspect I’m not the target he really wants to go after, or he never would have offered the deal, but they could hit my closest city to there in 4 turns or so. I’ve also still continued building cuirs in anticipation of upgrading them to cavalry later.
I just switched Yak to building culture after it grew to size 2 this turn so I could work the 4f clam and a mined riverside grassland hill (growing and getting some worthwhile production). I need to pop the borders again to gain some space back from haram. Sitatunga is also building culture to try to get its fish back. Without it, it can’t grow effectively as it’s the only >2f tile available to it. 4 more turns till its borders pop and hopefully I will get back control of that tile.
I started moving a settler down to claim the grassland hill city spot that will solidify my border with haram in my southeast. I’ve got another settler being built to claim a costal spot north of Zebra that’ll share pigs, try to grab the clams that used to belong to GJ, and fill in that area completely.
