FWIW, I think Seven realized he acted in an ass-based manner, and has changed his tone quite a bit. Also, you and Commodore have done a great job of making SMACK pay for their hubris, derating their victory chances from "likely" to "yeah right", I don't think you need to add insult to injury by razing your own stuff.
I do think it's unsporting.

Heh, apology is one thing, cavalierly discussing the dissection before the corpse dies is another. Saying "no offense" is worthless air. Be that as it may, yeah, pillaging own improvements is probably too spiteful...it's a real pity about roads being untouchable. On the other hand, if the victim cares to disagree to the "shut up, wogs, big boys are talking" land splits, I'm rather sympathetic.
I'm just a frustrated dedlurker, at this point, but I say defend where you will. You did move hard to stop Plako earlier despite preferring him to take the land over SMack, which probably cost you Foxwoods. It's unfun, annoying, and grating, but if SMack and Cheese (LP, et al) want good little victims, play against an AI. The one other comment I have is that there really is a small chance of defending against this wave, looks like you've stuffed enough crap in there to make it dicey, at least.

Well said.

I wasn't aware I couldn't pillage my own roads. I did strip off three farms already but they can rebuild those. I was going to use the three chariots to kill the roads next turn if they survived the first wave of attackers. I assume that would not be frowned upon, slowing an invader?
I still don't agree. Napoleon would have preferred Tsar Alexander didn't burn all his crops on the long retreat to Moscow. The only difference here is that the winter won't save me. But I see no reason to leave the tiles improved if I can't use them anymore -- how does that improve my odds or position in the game? If the goal is to win or do as well as you can I don't understand how not destroying anything I can't use and denying its use to my enemies does anything to undermine my position or chances. Meanwhile it does inhibit the invader, even if the degree to which it does so is almost insignificant. It isn't anything to get particularly in a twist about I wouldn't think. But I'll consider it before playing my next turn.
Tiles under consideration for pillaging: mostly crappy cottages, and the one town I have, at the capital. Would it be unsporting to stop working cottages to prevent further incubation before being overrun? I've swapped a cottage to a mine as it produces more hammers for my TT defense, surely that's not a denial of undue gains. And I turned on tech this turn to burn through my treasury, I'd rather get beakers than they get capture money. Or is capture money not tied to my treasury? I've never researched that before.
Anyway I'll reconsider before playing again. Yes I'd love to needle Seven just as much as I can, but I don't want to be more spiteful than he deserves -- just the right amount of spite will do.

Aaand the turn has rolled. Commodore are you near a game PC? I'm not. Stupid job....our reserves want to die in the city, not in the countryside. Besides, Mao commands it to be so.

An aside, given Seven's whines in the IT thread of all places, two things are probable:
1. Twinkle-toes defense is making him balk! TT, once again you prove that quantity has a quality all its own.
2. SMack feel, self deprecation aside, that they have a shot at, if not winning, then at least relevance. Which is doubtlessly true, they did after all just tech Guilds and Civil Service.
The rank hypocrisy makes me a bit irate, needless to say, but that could be because I'm sleep deprived.

Oh well, the reinforcements will die as uselessly as the troops in the city. Couldn't be helped, I had to try to reinforce the city.

I've whined enough about it for now, I'll try to keep quiet. Doesn't make a difference anyway.
...But maybe it's time to do the subtle thread rename mentioned earlier on...

I think any subtlety went out of this thread a couple hundred posts ago. :neenernee
